woodcock1
Finished word this evening for christmas, ye ha. Got away at 3.30 so decided to try for a duck or two in a flooded field near the house. Only ever shot mallard wigeon and teal anywhere round here and never really see anything else. Had a go at the first pair of duck that came in and got one. While the dog was retrieving it two more circled in over giving me a good chance and managed to get both. I didnt re load as this was plenty for me on this outing. By this time molly had returned with the first duck and I was surprised to see what I think is a Gadwall. On retrieving the other two I was even more surprised to find two more that I wasnt certain about. I think but could be wrong that the two bottom ducks are drake and hen gadwall. The top one is still puzzling me as it looks the same though the red colouring of the head is throwing me a little. Widgeon? Have I made a big mistake? wildfowlingmad
Its very hard to tell in low light isnt it! I'm not going to pretend that i know what kind of ducks they are when i shoot at them! "shoot first, ask questions later" - not always a good saying but hey! anyways from top to bottom i beleive its a cock wigeon a drake gadwall and a hen widgeon at the bottom. A nice flight, well done! :good:

The gadwell is a first for me!

I have never seen the two birds fly together before but as it was just after you fired the other shot they may have joined to feel safer?.. I only bagged my first gadwall last week too, ive never really seen that many round here.
