chady
Hi I sent my form of for my s.g.c sat. And I got a call today from them as I asked them to. My mum died last Christmas and I spent no more than two months on anti depression pills. They have asked me to get a letter from my doctors detailing what I was on so on. I am waiting for a phone call from my doctor tomorrow. I have asked if this can be done in time for the shooting show at newalk end of Feb as I want to get gun from there as hoping to get a good deal. The nice chap from the firearms department said that it could be done but might not be. Now has any one got experience with a s.g.c when had anti depression pills? What's my chance with my one short time on them? And what are the deals like at the newalk show? Thanks Jamie
Dr_evil
I assume that as you haven't needed them or been prey to any adverse affects for a year you should be alright for the grant of a certificate
smilersmiff
I am glad somebody asked about anti depressants and applying for a SGL. I was prescribed mild ones when my marrage broke down 6 years ago and only took them for about a month. I was worried that they might refuse me a license. foggy011983
I hate to put a downer on things but I would think it would be a 50 50 chance of getting granted. I may be wrong but I would think under 12 months would give them cause for concern. Obviously each case is different, ie circumstances, strength of tablets and whether any self harm or mention of self harm was spoken to your doctor. Another factor will be if you have been in a similar situation before. I can obviously see why police look into this but I also feel because people may fear losing their licence if they go to their docto, they may not go and get treatment to get them through a difficult time and subsequently make a bad situation worse. If I were you I would contact the basc if it doesn't get granted. Good luck though and I'm sorry for your loss

mr salt
if the doctors on side ,you will get it. upsets me that the press always goes off on one about mental health. it Brands everyone as a psycho ,who has ever needed help , however small. Beretta28g
Make sure you keep a copy of all corespondance, esp regarding doctors. Ask your doctor to let you know if the police contact him, and give a breif description of the topic discussed.

chady
Well all they have done is spoke to me on the phone a couple of times. Been rely nice and helpfull though. They did say it might be done before end of Feb ready for the show but they said it will be tight and might not happen. I have tickets for show so am going. Problem is if the guns are going cheap and I have to miss out because no licence will hack me off. It will be my fault though for not making my mind up sooner and put application in. And to be honest I expect it to be longer than end of Feb. I am just hoping Has any one been to the newalk show how cheap do things go there or not at all? notsosureshot
There is not one person over 30 that has not suffered from depression at some point in their adult life. The extent to which they suffer varies wildy. I was prescribed anti-depressants over sleep problems in 2002, I think. A stupid prescription really as I wasnt depressed I just couldnt sleep. Apparently a side effect of those pills was the desire to sleep..... Never took the tablets but they appeared on my records and it listed depression. I was asked about it at interview so I showed him the (still full) box. I'm sure if its a specific, life changing event, the FEO will take that into account. To be totally frank, Im not sure the death of a persons mother would normally cause depression in an adult. That is not intended to be judgemental at all, but I admit, if I was an FEO, I would look at such an application very thoroughly. However, everyone is different and circumstances are different. Just be honest and open. They have to be cautious, especially with certain recent events. Its important to understand that.
HDAV
There is not one person over 30 that has not suffered from depression at some point in their adult life. Not sure how showing him you hadn't been taking your prescribed medication would make you more suitable than someone who had taken a course some years ago and was no longer on them. The general rule is be honest.
chady
Well my doctor put on the letter small dose and for a short time. And put 'i see know reason why Mr chadburn should not be aloud a shotgun licence' The officer read the letter when on the phone and said that's realy good. So I don't think I have much of a problem I will update you all Thanks
notsosureshot
It was more to illustrate the fact I wasnt depressed at all, rather than recovered. Matter of fact, I only discovered depression was on my records following a freedom of information request. Just as well I did...!
chady
Well he was a nice man. Say definate no problems with me getting a licence. Get cabinate and ring him at weekend and he will be out next week. Happy days
dan-250
As long as it's not Lincoln you'll get before feb show. Most places from interview only take 2-3 weeks. if not where are you from? do you have anyone close by with a sgc and a space free? I have 1 space free so could hold onto it and gift it over if not too far away. Am sure a friend would too.
chady
From coalville near loughborough and leicester. So its leicestershire police force. I can't see why it won't be hear in time for show.. Ordering cabinate tonight and hopefully have by weekend and fitted by Sunday So all good . If I had known I would have got safe all ready but was unsure so didn't want to risk it. DO you get good deals at the show?
HDAV
DO you get good deals at the show? You'll get to see plenty of guns but well worth going armed with prices before hand as some traders may well add £50 to the price for the show (they have to cover the costs of the trade stand!) I've not been to that specific one but the one is have Midland etc haven't been that great
dan-250
I've never been but hoping they are ok deals if not the same price. Saves on rfd transfer costs. After a hatstand and Maybe get a few carts on a good deal too. You've gotta go to see if they have tho. No point being told after the event
