Scully
The only fox shooting we do with shotguns(apart from opportunistic shots)are organised fox drives during daylight, with a group of guns, heavy loads, and a couple of hounds.I didn't even know people did it at night, but if you get results, then why not? Each to their own. tomhw100
we've shot loads of foxes with shotgun at night and four in one night a couple of times!. One of our permissions is a dairy farm and is quite small the fields are surrounded by houses and a 223. or 222. are still a bit naughty. i know shotguns are loud but weve shot foxes near enough one after the other with them. One of us normally lamps with a Deben Max gunlamp-500M range with handle,he carries both batteries. The guns are 12 bores i use full and 3/4 chokes (if i had to fulls id use them)we use lyalvale express 1s or BBs. We call the foxes in by sqeaking on the hand-which once learned i think is better than any caller. The hard bit is getting them close enough (with in 40 yards). Always aim for the Head and be ready for a follow up if needed. its an exciting way to shoot foxes and requires skill and patientice when they start running towards you you can feel your heart beating Good Luck! Guest topshot_2k
Use both but when using shotgun i use Browning Fusion Semi Auto, 3" 50g cartridges, Lightforce lamp and one of those pro fox callers, all on top of a toyota hilux This is mainly during harvest, other times tend to me alone with rifle/lamp or in a high seat
WelshLamb
I shoot foxes with my bettinsoli 12g. I use 3" 50g Mammoth BB Magnum shells, through 1/2 and 3/4 choke. Dont be afraid to give them both barrels. I always go for a head shot , and I try not to hit any over about 30 yards. I use "UK's Best Fox Call" which is £10 delivered from their website
M.I.A
I use a semi auto, 3" 50g bb load and i just squeek with my mouth works a treat
mr salt
never go out looking for them but have taken a few very close with al391 semi and gamebore clear pigeon 32grms with 3/4 choke. these are were old lazy foxes hanging around pheasent feeders or pens. these would not be my cartridge of choice ,but were in the gun at the time . we are talking a few yards away ,the shot didnt even spread. would use 3inch cartridge with big shot ,if i was after them. to be fair more get runover by cars around here than shot or taken by the hunt. Salop Matt
I know not many people seem to like the guy but having watched a few warreners video`s, one things for sure he knows how to call fox ! and appears to be successfull with the shotgun. Iv never taken a fox with a shotgun but fancy giving it ago, I know years ago when i was young my dad had 4 in a night with a semi-auto out of a shogun sun roof. There arent many fox on my farm permition and the farmer isnt bothered about them either, so i thought i would try to make the most of the few chances i get and have a bash for one with the shotgun ! henry d
Usually have one in the motor when lamping and also when up a highseat too, very handy if they aren`t staying still. Xtrema with 50gm No1`s up the spout and second shot, third is 2 1/4 oz of buffered copper plated yank No2`s (just smaller than BB`s)
Simon123
I go out every saturday over the winter during daylight. We use the same method as 'Scully' and have had very good result's. Have had over 90 foxes since October, which is quite good. Had a few out with the lamp, using the hand call method, and have had good results. I always use 40g+ cartridges loaded with No. 2 - BB shot, but mostly use 50g RC cartridges in No.2's and in BB's with very good results. Personally find the RC range of cartridges better than anything else on the market. Just a Personal thing, others may rather others

Simon123
Personally wouldn't go for Full choke, maybe 3/4, but i prefer 1/2 through mine :good:
njc110381
I think that the load varies depending on your gun. If it's only got 2 3/4 chambers then 42g is about the most you can fire I think? If that's the case go for #1 to keep a reasonable pattern. If you have a 3" then 50g is better and with a 3.5" I'd step the shot size up to BB and fire the heaviest load you can find. 66g is the biggest I've heard of! I'm not a fan of shotgunning Foxes but if you can get them close enough it works well. I've shot a few with 42g #1 out of my combi gun before and I haven't lost any yet. I even shot one with 18g of #6 out of my .410 once but we pretty much walked into eachother! He was less than ten yards away and didn't take a step! bigjohn
He didn't take a step, because he had 3 legs... ...and, to be fair, was looking in the opposite direction.
Blunderbuss
He didn't take a step, because he had 3 legs... ...and, to be fair, was looking in the opposite direction. And baited in close with crumpets which is a bit unethical..........
