Sealskinz Shooting Gloves

Hi all,

Having read so many recommendations for Sealskinz gloves I bought some last week.

First use this last weekend shooting pheasants up in Scotland and I quickly discovered a problem. These gloves are not 'handed' and therefore BOTH index fingers fold back. All well and good on my RH trigger finger, but fold-back piece is held back by small magnets - one sewn into the back of the hand, the other into the back of the finger. (A friend of mine bought some a month ago from the same shop and his has the more traditional Velcro system - so I think it is only the latest versions which have gone onto the magnet idea).

The problem with this, as I quickly found out, is that when you put your hand into your pocket to get a couple of cartridges out to reload, the magnet invariably picks up a 3rd cartridge magnetically on the back of the finger, which it then deposits on the ground somewhere around your feet for you to pick up later!!

So, fantastic, comfortable, warm gloves rendered totally impractical at a stroke by some 'improvements' to the old velcro fastening system. Has anyone else come across this problem?

ps On the plus side it DID create great amusement for all of my friends, whenever a cartridge was discovered on the floor, anywhere at all, I was blamed ALL weekend

Not sealskins, but an excellent shooting glove I have just discovered is the mac wet range. After trying on dozens of different gloves including the sealskins I have finally found the perfect ones for me. They are warm and waterproof and fit perfect, they come in loads of different sizes and also come in short and long, you can feel everything with them on and don't need to fold back your trigger finger, they fit that well and are that sensative I can actually roll a fag whist wearing them.

Why the hell did they change from velcro :hmm:

To the above poster re. macwets, are you sure they are water proof?

I was told they are, to be honest I have only worn them in a shower not really bad rain, but have worn them ferreting rolling around and laying nets in long wet grass and they have been fine upto now. I was mainly looking for a comfortable tight fitting, warm glove that you can feel what you touch and these have fit the bill upto now. I did try the sealskins on, but found they didn't quite fit and you had to fold back the fingers unlike the macwet ones.

Hi,

......following on from my 1st post.............

Took gloves back to the shop I bought them from and explained the problem to the owner (demonstrated with EMPTY shells!!) He completely understood and couldn't understand why they had moved away from Velcro system (older stock of smaller sizes on his shelves were still Velcro type).

He kindly offered to refund them, even though I had worn them all weekend, or swap them. I decided to swap them and took some Sealskinz HUNTING gloves which are pretty much the same gloves but don't have any fold back fingers. I don't always fold it back anyway and they seem to have sufficient feel for me to manage with them - and have a warmer trigger finger to boot!

Thumbs up to "LUCKS of LOUTH". Top shop and excellent customer service.
