Cranfield
If you are set up facing the rape and the birds are coming from behind you and flying over the rape and ignoring your decoys, are they still landing in the field ? What is the wind direction ? Can you set up on the other side of the field, so the pigeons are flying towards you ?
Cosd
Possibly move your decoys further away from the hide! Maybe they are seeing the decoys too late and not turning back. Or if the wind is blowing into your face and the decoy pattern is too close to the trees or hedges, they haven't got enough room to turn in. As Cranfield said, which direction is the wind blowing? I had my best day to date where 99% of the pigeons all came from behind me. The flight line was behind me that day but they were seeing and coming into the decoys. I was using a flapper on that occasion.
Matt Gould
i had esacly this happen to me on saturday, what i did was stick a rotory directly inder where the birds are flying, i found the bouncers...flapper... shells..... didnt attract enough attention to pull the birds away from where they wanted to go, stick a magnet directly underthere flight path these attract alot more attention

Cranfield
You can mount a flapper as high as you want. I have a couple of rods up to 3ft long that I use on higher crops, especially effective for crows over wheat.

If you adjust the bouncer right you get a nice bounce as the wings flap too.
The Essex Hunter
i have just got a perm on some rape there are a lot of pigeons on it and they are there most of the time but when i set up the tend to come from behind me there no ideal place to set up on the other side is there any thing i can do that would make them come down they just tend to pass over and not pay any intention to the decoys Birds feeding is really the answer, however if there is enough room then set the hide up in the middle of the field to suit the flight line. Here is an example of what you can do with the bill hook! http://s856.photobucket.com/albums/ab130/TheEssexHunter/Essex%20pigeons%202/?action=view¤t=STA60279.jpg Plenty of decoys in a random pattern! And sit still because I would guess you won’t get them swinging around a couple of times for a second look. Pick out a bird, kill it then wait for the next one. Shoot a few and then add them to the pattern. Good luck TEH
