i sort of reached a point where i was a bit sick of throwing the pelts away from the deer i shoot i take my time and skin pretty good all in one piece then roll it up and bang stright in the bin , its mad i no times have changed and i dont need to make my clothes out of hides but even if i tanned it and gave it way its better than lobbing it, right?

im pleased i can now tell you i can tan :D :D

its hard work and very time consuming and no good if you have a bad back but to look back on and say i can do the lot pull the trigger butcher boil heads for mounts and tan it means alot.

thanks for you comments lads :good:

there are many ways to tan and different solutions to use.

the most important is to remove all bit of the pelt fat meat vel the lot. that takes the time and effort. then its ok after that i place it in a solution of citric acid then a 5 day soak in alum then a wash in bicarb then it gets hard again if you want it stiff tac onto a board and leave till dry. if you want it supple you have to work it hard bend twist scrape basically rag the **** out of it so it don't go stiff and shrink. and then sorted its a bit more to it but that's a rough brake down

Nice Job ---They look great!! I admire you for making full use out of the animal, that is noble and I can see it takes a lot of effort on your part. Over here the fur buyers will take deer hides (if kept frozen) and give you a pair of leather gloves in exchange. Not a bad deal if you have the freezer space open for a month before the trapping season begins.

Loving the fox one.

Would look great on the grille of a big HGV

Would look like it had just splatted it doing speed

It's fantastic nothing goes to waste! So do you use the Sinue as boot laces then?

I wonder hiw hard it would be to Tan a Pigeon. :D

All those pelts look brilliant. I don't shoot deer or foxes at the moment but appreciate the beauty in their hides.

was looking at getting a medium sized one to go in front of my log burner for the dog to lay on!

Glad to see someone making use of the whole animal too.

thanks mate its a shame to loose any part of a deer to the bin. the foxes are hard work not only to flesh but they make you want to    skinning them.

they really do get your gag going

thanks andy
