Blunderbuss
What German glass is best? Leupold Swaroski Schmit & Bender Metopa Or otheres. Budget of £750 MAX For good glass on a stalking rifle. Leupold and Meopta aren't German (Yank and Czech). Still good though. You missed Zeiss off the list. With that budget Schmidt and Bender, Swarovski or Zeiss. On half your budget I just bought a Meopta and I'm really chuffed with it, very bright and clear in low light and solidly put together. bullet boy
If you want a good stalking scope get a Schmidt&Bender 8x56!! A brilliant scope that is popular with Deer Stalkers!
12borejimbo
Order of preferance for me - Leupold Meopta (very good glass for the price) Swarovski/Schmidt and bender are the 2 top brands in glass in my opinion. Zeiss are also very good, I dont own one, well yet anyway.
Catweazle
Copied from another thread. Here's an often quoted chart based on some US tests, I think on SnipersHide website. I gives you an idea, although it misses out some good models. I believe the Bushnell 6500 has the same glass as the Elite 4200. T Bone Rating Scale 10 - Zeiss VM/V, Swarovski PH, Schmidt & Bender 9 - Swarovski PH, Swarovski A-Line, Schmidt & Bender 8 - Swarovski A-Line, Kahles, IOR 7 - Zeiss Conquest, Kahles, Elite 4200, IOR 6 - Leupold VX III, Weaver Grand Slam, Nikon Monarch, Bushnell Elite 4200, Burris Euro & Black Diamond 5 - Leupold Vari-X III, Weaver Grand Slam, Nikon Monarch, Burris Signature Select 4 - Burris Fullfield II, Bushnell Elite 3200, Simmons AETEC, Leupold VX-II, Nikon Buckmaster 3 - Simmons, Redfield, Rifleman, Leupold VX-I, Nikon Buckmaster 2 - Simmons, BSA, Tasco 1 - BSA, Tasco

garyb
I've owned scopes from all 4 of those names. Like mentioned above Leupold is American, and Meopta are Czech. Currently all my rifles wear Swarovski or Meopta glass.... you do the math I still maintain that leupold are inferior to euro optic offerings :yp:
garyb
As are nightforce and all the other american rubbish...................... :yp:
Beretta28g
I thought Nightforce were good, though very expensive; didn't Robbobsam use one on a 704 yard hare???
garyb
Like all glass.. It's very personal. My best advice to have a look down as many as you can, in differing light conditions and then make up your own mind. Nightforce's are expensive, and American... and what the yanks love most is home grown products, as the internet reviews show For me, they are not as clear as my Swarovski and have too many fussy features.
