tikka.223
I read the post about removing the tail with hacksaw blade ( might have been a video) Won't the tail just be floppy then ? This is the method I use to remove the brush and soak in meths,if people are using this method aswell how do you get the salt right up into the end of the tail without having to split the tail all the way to the end? Dekers
This is the method I use to remove the brush and soak in meths,if people are using this method aswell how do you get the salt right up into the end of the tail without having to split the tail all the way to the end? With great difficulty, although a bit of decent gauge wire can help. Frankly thats one of the reasons I don't use this method anymore, the meths way is just so easy! steve_b_wales
Interesting replies guys thanks. Aled I would advise going with the tanning solution from Snowdonia Taxidermy Supplies. For under £20, you get to make 2 gallons which will last you years, and no potch with meths, or waiting weeks.

CoolhandMal
Can you advise process for turning tail skin inside out, I would have thought that extremely difficult! Cheers No Problem... Put bone of tail in a vice, peel back the tail from the bone until you get enough skin in your fingers to grip with, then pull the tail from the tail bone, wallha ....tail now becomes inside out, simply remove any excess goo then stretch it and rub it down with a generous amount of salt.Hope all helps, works for me every time. Ok, no doubt I'm being dense here, but I take the tail off the bone and leave the bone on the fox, no issue to cut off the whole tail, bone included though. I am still struggling to grasp how you can actually invert such a Full brush, how far back do you go, they get very thin towards the end, are you suggesting you can Completely invert the whole tail? I would like to watch someone do that!

TaxiDriver
Ronnie Sunshines sells the tanning stuff(powder?) that you mix up and gives you a white skin.
steve_b_wales
Ronnie Sunshines sells the tanning stuff(powder?) that you mix up and gives you a white skin. As mentioned, Snowdonia Taxidermy Supplies sell the tanning kit (powder) that you mix with water to produce two gallons. It takes about 2 pints of liquid to tan a fox tail / rabbit skin, and you can use it again, at least one more time. Very easy to use, and gives perfect results.
