Fraz
Request for some advice - am servicing an old Noricona air gun for a friend...had been in the garage rusting away. Have it all stripped down & repainted (obviously not worth rebluing), ordered a new piston washer as the old one was knackered...now the difficult bit...having trouble getting the piston back in the chamber with the new washer on it - (the new washer is the correct one as ordered from distributers)Have even tried with the home made spring compresser but it results in bits of washer getting caught as I force it in .All viewings on You Tube show pistons sliding straight back in with no problems! All thoughts appreciated cheers fraz
Underdog
Seems like the wrong seal! What is it made of? U.
Fraz
The washer that came out was a leather one,the replacement was a blue rubber/plastic one - I'm assuming as the gun is +20 years old the plastic one is whats used now. The issue appears that it flares out (I'm guess to generate a seal)...thats the problem bit of getting it in. Do I need to get the wet n dry out on to it? TaxiDriver
Could you possibly chill it overnight, might make it contract slightly? or warm it up to make it a little more flexible?
Fraz
TD - Have just come back from putting it onto the boiler - thanks for the thought - will give it another try later!
Paddy Galore!
thin metal shim (beer/coke can) wrapped round the piston head, greased up, and slide into the breach, grip the shim and push the piston in past the guide.
snipper
no piston seal should be that tight ....i'd double check its the right one
bruno22rf
Make sure that all sharp edges are smoothed off on the cylinder and that the initial part is lubed-once the piton/seal gets down to where it normally works you should find that it loosens off-I would think very carefully before trying to remove materiel from the washer itself. If the trigger unit is separate from the cylinder you could also try tapping a wooden wedge in the long slot underneath to open the tube out a little. Underdog
Pour boiling water over it, dry it off and feed into the lubed cylinder. In saying that I have never had to do this to a springers piston seal!!!!! Underdog.
Fraz
Gents Many thanks - combination of warming up washer on boiler + using the sides of a can of coke to form a funnel (inspired!) and it slid straight in! (it just needed getting the outside edge of the washer completely inside the chamber straight) Outcome - cost £3 for a washer, tin of black spray paint (lying in the garage) + a bit of time with some wet n dry (getting the rust off)= hopefully a very happy friends grandson with his first airgun! thanks again
