HDAV
try toyota rav 4 about '96 '97 about 35 to galon tax not to bad and low insurance. get the one with twin sun roofs and you have a built in lamping hatch! (as long as you aren't too fat!) gutsy 2.0l petrol engine SWB with decent tyres goes well and much comfier than most... they shot up in price from £5-900 to £12-1500 afte rlast lot of snow so should come down in price (watch out for 2wd Jap imports!) Luckyshot
Then it going to cost you in tax and insurance and fuel! If Disco insurance is anything like Defender insurance it isnt going to be as expensive as any jap motor. My 95 Defender costs £144 fully comp so including tax £370 a year. My mate pays more than that on insurance alone on his hilux, we are both the same age.

chrispti
Suzuki Jimny The older ones like mine (S reg) £125 road tax a year £110 insurance (fully comp) And will go all the same places as most other 4x4's will Edited January 23, 2012 by chrispti
PWD
Get a pick up...I use a Ford Ranger..they dont have the hard boy looks like a Navara or L200 but the dont blow up either ..fuel around 27 mpg insurance seems decent enough NFU £350 a year but that's on business usage..seems to go off road well enough...not great on wet grass..but what is with compromised road/off road tyres. Nice ride down the M way, leather interior so the **** wipes off and a back like a small van . My Freelander was good enough to me..bit low on ground clearance though so OK for tracks but anything else and it grounds

sandspider
Suzuki Jimny £110 insurance (fully comp) Can I ask who you're insured with? I assume this is a second car? The best quote I could find for a Jimny was nearly double that (second car etc. too). Cheers.
