Browning 425 clay hunter
Hi all, I'm going to be doing some game shooting soon thanks to a couple of kind offers on here but not sure what carts to use and what my gun will cope with. I've looked for previous post's but not been able to find the answers I'm after so I'm looking for some advice off here directly relating to this question. I've got a B425 96' with 2 3/4" chambers also M/C. I've seen a few things about lead only or steel only shot, don't use to tight a choke, don't use too big a shot size so I'm fairly confused by it all. The carts I've been on for clays are eley 28g 67mm 7.5 12g but not sure these are suitable. What carts should I be using and what are the limits I could use i.e biggest/heaviest All advice appreciated, thanks mike Edited January 25, 2012 by Browning 425 clay hunter
fenboy
2 3/4 inch shells carrying 30grams of 6 shot should be sufficient for most game , if its driven shooting and the birds are going to be particulary high then 32-34 gram of 5 would perhaps be a better option. Browning 425 clay hunter
Thanks fenboy, do you recommend any particular brands
EdSolomons
As above really mate. Don't be taken in by all the marketing rubbish, everyone will have a fave but they all do exactly the same job. Start with the cheapest you can get, then buy some more! Wildfowler12
I'd recommend Gamebore Clear Pigeon 32g No.6. Or Gamebore Super Game 32g No.6. Both in Fibre wad.
humperdingle
You'd also need to check if the ground you're shooting on allows plastic wads, or fibre only.
Dangerous Brian
I've used Fiocchi Pigeon 32's in size 6 shot and found them to hit pretty hard (fibre). Recoil was OK (not the softest) but I was using them in a heavyish gun. I think the shot sizing is Italian which would make them about an English 5 1/2. As posted above, everyone has a favourite brand. Can you get a few of you together and buy a few different boxes to try? ATB Brian
BRAD1927
I would suggest the following depending on what Game and where you are shooting. High pheasant - 32g No6 or 32g No5 General pheasant, partridge, pigeon - 30g/32g no6 Hares - 34g/36g no4 I always use fibre wad not reason just do Choke wise 1st Barrel - 1/4 - Improved cylinder 2nd Barrel - 1/2 - modified This should sort you out for most occassions Hope it helps and good luck on the game I have my last game shoot on Saturday :( Edited January 26, 2012 by BRAD1927

Agree with fenboy, + check with shoot organiser whether you need fibre wads, if he says it doesn't matter and you can use either, then opt for plastic wad. You can also ask the shoot organiser if the birds will be "driven and or high" to decide which of the above options to go for.
Browning 425 clay hunter
Thanks for all the advice guys. Its the first time I will be shooting anything but clays and want to make sure I set up correctly and do the job as humanely as possible. Really looking forward to it. Once again thanks for the advice Edited to add it's just me and the chap who's permission were on not a driven day or anything like that. Cosd
Gamebore Clear pigeon 32gram no6 will serve you well and put more lead in the air than a no5, which would be better for you in my opinion. The gamebore cartridge is hard hitting and a decent cartridge.

More lead is not always better ,especially if your going to eat what you shoot, as it appears you will be shooting walked up gane range is not normally a issue 30gram of 6 will be ample,I personally use fibre wads
