turbo33
After passing many fields of rape that were devoid of any pigeons, I came across a field of winter Barley/wheat 4" high with 200+ birds on it I know they will go after chickweed, but I can't imagine there is any on ther for them now as it will have been sprayed off before the cold weather. I have never seen them with wheat/barley foliage in their crops, or known them to feed on it so what are they after any ideas?
Cranfield
They could be resting after having fed on the rape.
activeviii
They could be resting after having fed on the rape. Its warmer on the floor out of the wind in the grasses. we see this quit often on the fields around winter rape.

Harnser
They will often sit on winter cereals just to get out of the wind and chew the cud . Pigeons are gregarious creatures and like to have a chat . They could even be gritting up ,or feeding on weed . They like to sit in a low spot on the fields . I have shot birds on cereals although not my choice of crops . Harnser .
anser2
They have been feeding on chickweed in winter wheat in Norfolk in the last few weeks. Last week I had a good afternoon shooting pigeons over mustard. They have destroyed 3\4 of the field striping the leaves , but leaving the stalks. This is the first time i have seen pigeons eating mustard ( this was before the present snow ). Edited February 10, 2012 by anser2

Anser 2, Up to two years ago the neighboring farm to us used to have a contract for growing the mustard for a very well known local mustard maker . I was always getting a call from him to shoot the pigeons on the growing mustard .The pigeons would feed it right through the whole growing season and then have a go on the stubble .
