evo
hi all i,ve been given permission to shoot over a friends land but it is only grass being grown in the fields,,there is an acorn tree at one end in the middle and the pigeons are always in it and feeding on the ground on the acorns, it is approx 80mtr from a hedgerow and as soon as i move , off they go, the pigeons use the hedgerow as a flight path to the tree, is it worth me putting a hide up and some decoys to get them to leave the tree area and come in shooting range or is this a waste of time over grass ?? they are just so crafty,,i,m camo,d up but they vere off out of distance as soon as they see any movement,,any help would be really grateful ,,thanks all
the crowman
Use the flight line and keep still till they are in range
Cranfield
With the recent snow covering the rape, there have been quite a few pigeons on some exposed seeded grass areas on the Farms. When I had a look they seemed to have been feeding on chickweed and other shooting weeds. If you see them on the field its worth putting out some decoys and giving it a try. bakerboy
With the recent snow covering the rape, there have been quite a few pigeons on some exposed seeded grass areas on the Farms. When I had a look they seemed to have been feeding on chickweed and other shooting weeds. If you see them on the field its worth putting out some decoys and giving it a try. As above They also feed on clover, so it is possible to decoy over grass. Finding the flightline is the most important thing to do. Use nickbeardo's decoy pattern information in the tips and tricks section and this will help you.
12borejimbo
If they are always heading to the tree and they roost there, all I would do is put a few lofted birds up there, make a half decent hide at the best and sit tight for some action! That is if the wont decoy near you, but the best bet would be to make a hide on the hedgerow and decoy them on the flight line into your pattern!
