otherwayup
I finally got up the bottle to take my 14 month ESS out with the gun this afternoon. As all I was interested in was giving my dog his first freshly shot bird retrieve, I took a rather unsporting shot and dropped a Pigeon from a sitty tree to land 10 yrds in front of us. He sat still until sent out, had a sniff and a half ar*ed attempt at picking a couple of times, so I brought him back and tried again, with same result. He has retrieved cold game birds a few times, but never Pigeon. I walked out and brought the bird in, placed it in his mouth and told him to "hold" for 2-3 seconds, then "dead". Took bird back out again. This time he went straight out and retrieved straight to my hand. Well chuffed, as I 've heard some dogs don't like Pigeons because of the loose feathers. otherwayup
Memorable moment, well done and nice picture Yep, it is memorable. I get far too stressed (with most things), so it's good when something new goes ok.

eccles
I always put a fresh bird in a bit of old women's tights for the first few retrieves. It's the warmth of the birds that also puts them off.Nice work though and pics.
