bullet boy
I'd like to know what in your opinion is a good NV Add-On? I would love an Archer but funds don't exceed to that amount. I'm after a decent add-on that is good quality and good value for money and would it be suitable on my Simmons WTC 6.5-20x50(Front Parallax Adjustable)Scope at say 100-150 yard range? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

digit
I use a Cobra Merlin Mark, and you can see 150 yards at night but you need a good IR, i use a shootalite with a IR filter and it lights up the field.

Thanks for the info Paul.Has the Cobra got a point on the unit for an added IR Laser or not please? Don't want anything too cumbersome. Luckyshot
Best bit of advice I could give you is what ever add on you are thinking of getting try your best to have a look through one before you part with your money. Im speaking from experience and I learnt the expensive way tried all sorts of gen1 add ons before I settled for my current gen 3 Archer, expensive yes but well worth it. 150 yards shootable distance is a long way for a shot on rabbit with a gen 1 add on. Matt Gould
How much would I be paying for this unit and the IR Laser you mentioned please Matt?Is it good for 100-150 yards? the set up for the challenger, scope addaptor and laser would cost you about 430 quid, u also need a PX scope with add ons like you already know bushnell legen 5-15x40 ans mtc mambers are good my unit i can head shoot rabbits to 100-115 yards ish on a good night with my .17hmr and body shoot them to 150. i have had both cobra merlin and pulsar the pulsar gives a better image and its cheaper

al4x
weirdly I never seem to have to play with the paralax just the scope focusing ring makes the most difference about getting the cross hairs visible. Surprising how much you have to change it to get a decent view nearly binned my archer till I worked out the paralax wasn't what made the most difference. Even works on an 8x56 with no paralax adjustment absolutely fine. As for whats cheap and works well I have to say either keep lamping and saving or definitely try and look through some first, some of the low mag offerings terrify me you'd try and shoot things through them as ID can't be easy

steve_b_wales
I was told that the Cobra Merlin could be used without a 'pa' scope, but in practice, you need that extra bit of focusing to get the reticule nice and clear.

steve_b_wales
Will it work on my S&B 8x56 then Steve? Im totally confused! To be honest Mark, I would say no. You will see the reticule, but the pa makes it that more crisp and clear. That's why I sold mine. I was sick and tired of changing the scope on my .243. Plus, if I wanted to use the Cobra on my other rifles, I would have to change those scopes as well.
bullet boy
Thanks for that Steve.A decent unit should be good on my Simmons WTC 6.5-20x50(front parallax)scope then? Looking at the Pulsar GS Challenger as theres good reviews on this unit but i have to make sure its the kind of unit for me as i dont want to waste my cash on something thats not good enough for my needs. Just want something nice and clear for use with my .17HMR at 100-120 yards.
