steve_b_wales
A moderator is classed as a firearm, stupid as it is, and has to be locked away. Mine have always been locked in with my rifles (taken off first) I'm not sure whether locking, or placing them in a drawer would be acceptable. Dekers
The moment you screw a moderator to a firearm it becomes a firearm, and you need a slot, and then have to make sure it is listed on your FAC. Taking if off your firearm does not remove this liability, it is a firearm. Daft perhaps, I'm not going there, but it is listed on your FAC, has a slot and is classed as a firearm. So, locked up!?!?! bedwards1966
Due to the people who make the rules being complete idiots and knowing nothing about firearms, they are classed as a firearm. Therefore they have to be treated no different from a section 1 firearm, locked away and not to be accessed by unauthorised people. It's completely stupid, when as mentioned you can buy a mod for an air rifle, and the worst thing you can do is hit someone over the head with one (and if you wanted it for that there are far better tools for it!). No doubt the reason behind it all is that someone could go on a rampage more quietly with one and not be discovered whereas an unmoderated rifle would make more noise. I was told by my FEO when I got my FAC that if you have say a 5 gun cabinet, put in 5 guns with moderators that it will flag up on the police computers that you are storing 10 guns in a 5 gun cabinet! Obviously when that happens they look at it and sort it out, but it's how the system works. Not locking up your moderators is breeching the terms of your FAC regarding storage, daft as it may be. Hi All So when you want a 1 for 1 variation you should be able to swap a mod for a rifle. Geordie
bedwards1966
Hi All So when you want a 1 for 1 variation you should be able to swap a mod for a rifle. Geordie I believe so, due to the mod being a slot itself. Basically if you have 2 rifles with mods on your cert, you actually have slots for 4 firearms. I wonder if shotgun mods are classed the same, I've never had one or heard anything about it? Perhaps someone on here knows?
Jolly
thats an odd one i have a moderated .410 but dont have an extra slot on my SGC
Dekers
Hi All So when you want a 1 for 1 variation you should be able to swap a mod for a rifle. Geordie YES. That is a paperwork/cost variation though, there is nothing to say you will be allowed a 7mm Rem Mag for shooing bunnies for instance, you will still have to justify your required replacement!
