pimpkiller
i wouldnt ever touch any paid for security, its always micky mouse. start your computer in safe mode, run ccleaner and then i think under "tools" you can view the start up program list and you want to stop any weird looking programs from starting up and running, dont go too nuts some of that you need for the computer to work. give ccleaner a run then download malwarebytes free antivirus thing and give that a crack or spybot search and destroy. when something slips through, usually from not updating or going on a dodgy site, a virus will make itself a part of your computer and wont let any antivirus software touch it. You have to stop it from starting up in the first place then run antivirus to delete the inactive files. Its one of those things that really could do with someone looking at it if you don't know what you are doing
Brown Sauce
I've used a free antivirus software called avast, very good for the pc, recommended by a tech friend managing serves. Download and do a full pc scan, usually takes an hour, it'll find most nasty malware and will definitely stop the pop ups. Good luck
huffhuff
Safe mode and spybot wins my vote. Don't bother with any reg cleaners, they tend to do more harm than good. Disable erroneous startup items using msconfig from start > run. Disable/uninstall any Internet explorer toolbars or add-ons. In fact, do that then download google chrome and forget IE all together. Flush your %temp% folder by typing that into My Computer address bar (for all users) and also your temporary Internet files. Sometimes it's necessary to temporarly disable and purge your System Restore files as the spyware hides in there as it's protected. Obviously, this has it's own implications. You also need to make sure windows is bang up-to-date. My choice for antivirus is NOD32 if you're ok to pay (reasonably cheap, small footprint etc) or the Microsoft one for a freebie. That ones called Microsoft Security Essentials If you need more indepth technical step-by-steps, PM me. The other (and favoured) alternative is to backup data, wipe and reinstall. Won't take that long (probably quicker than all of above) plus your machine will seem faster and you would have guaranteed spyware has been deleted. Or...ditch the Windows rubbish and go Mac (I had to say it, sorry) When you get it back up and running... Stop looking at p0rn Edited March 9, 2012 by huffhuff

phaedra1106
Get a copy of MalwareBytes, it will find just about anything and remove it. This and AVG should be able to clean it fully. All the above are free, you can get them all from CNet Downloads, there's a list of the top Windows software at the bottom of the page, http://download.cnet.com/windows/ Edited March 9, 2012 by phaedra1106

harrypen
Still download Malwarebytes and install update and do a quick scan Let it remove what it finds PLUS Don't use reg cleaners as above they do more harm than good sorry forgot to say I had downloaded malwarebites last night,,,it didnt find anything until I removed aml reg cleaner ,,then it found a few ..But the answer so far seems to come out in favour of the ad blocker . Ads have disappeared from google results , facebook, this site , hotmail and a few others adfenders statistics show 114 ads blocked since I put it on a few hours ago and all websites are loading quicker since all the ads used to load up first (reading this before I post, it does appear to suggest that there is something lurking thats pulling the ads in)
-oXo-
If you want to block nearly all of the ads I would suggest running Firefox as your browser and installing Adblocker plugin. It really does work a treat at blocking all that unwanted **** coming up on every page you visit, which helps with loading time of pages I guess. Firefox has a whole heap of usefull plugins you can install to it to do pretty much anything you want. Couple handy links if you are interested: Firefox Browser Adblocker Plus - Plugin for firefox Really is simple just install firefox and use it as you would Internet Explorer or Google Chrome etc etc.. Then goto the adblocker link and follow the instructions ie, click install and restart the browser. Simples.
