Hey guys. Are you shooting clays at kirton this weekend?

If so I'll pop along and pay my membership.

Cheers lister.

Its funny you should say that as I have just filled my form in today and putting it in the post :good:

There is a clay shoot Sunday, I would like to go but it depends how the party goes on Saturday night. :hmm:

I went and had one round but more importantly paid my years wildfowling membership.

I shot ok but missed some I should have hit.

I took my abs out for a bash, I haven't shot it in anger in over a year.

It's a good laugh shooting there.

How did the dog training go?

Oh the dog training was fine. She's already fully trained but I still take her out with dummy's to keep her on the ball. Its good practice for her on the marsh as its difficult finding things out there in the long grasses etc.

I remember when I shot at Kirton, if you had a good stand the next one would always guarantee you didnt shoot a straight as you would find three clays coming from a double trap in different direstions :hmm:

That reminds me. Must get my subs paid soon :good:

I was once a regular there Lister but have not been for quite a few years but must give it a go again. Didnt go today, but went to Sheps for some dog training instead :good:

Blimey, I haven`t shot Sheps for about 20 yrs!!![i used to be a member of Spalding Wildfowlers]. Have some really fond memories of shooting that place. Sheps was my first experience of coastal wildfowling. Great times. :good:

This is my first year wildfowling, I'm really looking forward to it.

Trying to get some overtime in to fund a semiauto.

Good luck mate, I`m sure you`ll enjoy every minute of it. Its a completely different ball game to inland fowling. My only advice is make sure you study the terrain and especially the tide tables. Years back myself and a friend had to help a bloke and his dog off with the aid of a torch. He was stuck between creeks and the tide was coming in FAST!!. Luckily both he and his dog made it back to safety but the whole experience shook him up. Its just common sense really. Being on the forshore both at dawn and dusk is a magical experience. Let me know how you get on. :good:

I have witnessed more than a couple of people who have gone out and cant get back. One such guy was from away and had the offer to come out with me so I could get him a few shots but he decided to decline my offer and do his own thing. A hour or so later I could hear a commotion on the marsh and when arriving back in the car park I had great pleasure in watching this rather large guy waddling back with everything soaked through and waders squelching with every step....he decided it was a great idea to cross Mallard Creek without checking the tide tables, honestly I didn't laugh much   Apparently he had to strip off the outer layer and swim for it

There is a few good Fowler's who don't mind passing on a few tips and their knowledge as long as you are prepared to take it on-board Lister.

I plan to do plenty of research.

I was thinking of getting a tide book and comparing it to reality, I know weather can affect tide times.

Washwildfowler on here is also a member and said he will help me out.

I think your club will provide you with a Tide Table book :good: Remember it's only a guide.

Nip off to Boston to WH Smiths and get "Boston (Dock Sill) 2012 Tide Tables" or pm Washwildfowler and if you ask him nicely he might get you some they are about £1.50 I think :good:
