Antique Sidelocks

So the other day when I was looking at some guns round at Wabbitbosher's he came across these two plates from an old sidelock. I thought I could make something nice out of them and bought them off him for a very reasonable sum.

They Say "P Jeffreys" on the side.

Here's a picture of what they looked like after I had ground a square lug off the back of them both.

The next step was to buff one of them to a high shine with a combination of very fine wet and dry paper and a selection of buffing wheels/compunds.

Here's a picture of what it looks like now.

So here's the question......What shall I do with them now they are more aesthetically pleasing? I was thinking of making them into a money clip or something. Any thoughts appreciated.

Well, i love old stuff, our place is full of it, so personally I'd probably try and find an old pair of hammers and screw on from the back and mount them one above the other on a nice grained wood plaque. Maybe not 'off the wall' enough for you (no pun intended) but that's what I'd do, seems a shame to make them into something else.

I saw a picture once of two sidelocks used as the plates (?) on a folding knife. Have a word with a knifemaker.

I'd imagine any knife using these would be biggish. ;)

If you can get all the other bits..sears hammers springs etc polish them all up, get a acrilic modellers kit, like how the encase butterflies bugs and suchlike, pour the base in green then lay all the parts out and then pour the crystal acrilic until covered, nice to have on the desk or mantelpiece.........

Pour the clear first, let it set then lay the parts face down, and the coloured background last. That way the nice rounded edges of the mould face forwards, and any imperfections are round the back.
