me and my lad
best way for a bargain is to go along to a decent auctions, youll be amazed how cheap you can pick stuff up for. decide on a couple of models, brush up on prices. best way to do this is get an autotrader thats about 1 month out of date and ring round the cars advertised, see what sells and what doesnt. set yourself a limit on price and dont go over it. dont bother bidding against anyone holding a parkers guide, they pay silly money !! the last half dozen or so cars i have bought have all been from auctions. last one i got was a 4 years old 2.2CD omega, one owner, full history, 4 new tyres, £2100 including fees
lurcherboy
Not an estate though, is it [ edit: re: the vRS] Lovelly little cars though, shame about the brand snobbery. Never considered one mind, not sure if I would have one or not, certainly good enough - just still some stigma attached. Echo Pin's reply and any common fuel rail, especially in a Peugeot can return 70mpg if driven sensibly. Ask your local minicab driver. On one of my shoots there are a pair of cabbies and they swear by Peugeot. I overheard one of them say something along the lines of 200k miles and not a single fault. Has to count for something Pin, I look after a few cabbies motors, one has done just over 450K. He has had cambelts, services and brakes, lots of boots, two aircon problems and thats it. Pretty reliable from his point of view and a total loss from mine  LB
pin
Thats astonishing really, cabbies do hammer cars, 450k is a hell of a long way

Country_est
On the lines of an estate and mixing with 4x4 dont forget that VW do the Passat in a 4x4 1.9 diesel. From when we looked at a lot better than the skoda for its size as the skoda had a very slopey roof loosing a lot of estate space. Got a 54 variant eairler this year for th 11.5k mark your looking at. real vw quaility without skoda depreciation.... Trev.

Bloody jermins  To me it is, someone in the game like you wouldn't be so easily impressed. I have never owned a car with more than 60k on it, thats usually enough the way I drive, trust me For some reason I had this mental block in my head around 200k, in that cars didn't last much beyond that. I guess I see the odd car nocking about like really old granadas that must have been to the moon and back. Never really thought about it much, when I saw that number I was like !!! You learn something new every day

You learn something new every day There was a test done on a BMW E36 that travelled 1,000,000 on a test track driving 24/7. The manufactuers services were carried out as per the their schedule. When the engine was stripped down and the parts measured there was no signs of discernible wear. The car was run on fully synthetic oil. You don't need to use fully synthetic oil but regular oil and filter changes are the way to go. I serviced a Vauxhall corsa 3 cylinder last week for a new customer that was rattling like a can of nails. When I questioned the owner about his maintenance schedule he told me he didn't trust garages so he hadn't had it serviced for 3 or so years Not sure why he came to me. I have always changed my oil / filter / air filter / plugs etc a lot sooner and more regularly than required and it has served me well. I used to be a propper nutter and drive a lot harder than most people (where safe). See previous about mishaps I always tended to use Mobil1 by reputation. In the evo I used mobil1 and changed it every 2500miles. It did need it too

old rooster
Just got to reiterate that all you froggy car bashers are talking out of your backsides, take a look at how many are used by cabbies and how many do mega mileage. Peugeot have for many years made the best turbo diesel engines on the market. How many do you see broken down on the hard shoulder of the motorway ? German cars may have been the dogs nuts at one point but they are riding a declining reputation so if you just want to pay over the odds it's your choice. Didn't the wonderful people at Mercedes design a little "A" class vehicle that got into production only to be withdrawn because they kept falling over !!!, now that is a deffo case of "foreskin pork teknic"
