Mungler
Yes I have a sticky butt on my AL391 and it's driving me mad. The rubberised pad sticks to just about everything - it's worse than ******* weetabix. Quick mounting the gun is almost impossible and involves T-shirt or jacket getting caught and then rucked up round my face as the gun is brought up with the gun not mounting properly and the shot not being safe to take cleanly. Frankly I am getting bored of it. Any suggestions - my local gunshop suggested glueing lino to it to give it a smooth sliding surface but this just seems a bit too Blue Peter for my liking. My shooting with my 20 year old second hand silver pigeon goes from strength to strength and I am wondering if my dalliance with semi autos is over. Any tidy o/u out there - I might chop out the AL391 and treat myself to something special.... M
the last engineer
try a varnish like nail varnish, this can and will help, other than that i use 1" wide electrical tape and strech it over my stock pads, trimming it in neatly, i usualy replace this once a year when the stock comes off for maintanence, your 391 will come off like a loose glove, pull the pin and remove it wrap in tape and try it, all my target guns run this, some call it tacky ........... oh well......... it works trust me take a look http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/ind...64&hl=the+twins Martin
Mungler
Martin, good man - coming up trumps as usual. I shall get to it - I have a friend that works for BT and boy oh boy do I have insulating tape......
tosspot
i too had a brief flirtation with a 391, didn't get on with it for a quick and removable fix (ie when you sell it) try a slip over kickeeze pad this will also allow you to play with the length of stock alternatively you could use your sticky butt problem as an excuse for receiving your mega *** whooping at the next PW clay meet

pin
In my experience with golf, sticky is what you want So, in order to fix this you need loads of flaked dry skin (try the local clinic) and some sweat and oil. Opposite to what you want on a golf club grip. I spend half my life making grips sticky, this is deffinately what makes them slippy - so it has to work, right?
il cacciatore
Joking aside, I have the exact same problem with the AL391. Although, I have a plastic beretta butt pad that ill need to replace it with. Should make it better.
Mungler
Went out very very early, before first light to set up. This was too early because there was nothing in the sky until 7 a.m. Went out for blackies, decoys out, up a tree, rabbit inside out on the field... and we waited. One crow, bang, that was it. However (and this is the good bit) we had accidentally set up under a major pigeon flight line. No decoys, nothing just us tucked into the hedge and they kept coming and coming. Will be going back next week with the full on pigeon set up, two spinners and friends. The crops are looking ripe round here and near ready for harvest - I reckon rape in next 2 weeks and wheat shortly after. The pigeons are starting to flock again and the skies look busy with large numbers. I can't wait. Oh yes, the point of this was that I took my trusty o/u out with me and hit everything I shot at. My affair with the AL391 is over - the novelty of a 3rd shot wears off when you have a gun that does the job on one shot. I will be doing the ad shortly, get your offers in now - 3 months old, fully synthetic, black, AL391, good nick, 2000 carts through it, sling swivels and sling, original box and chokes that came with it and it has had it's first service back at the shop where I bought it new. Face to face, SGC holders only. I might treat myself and might be interested in something swanky / Blaser-esque. Anything out there?
il cacciatore
I admit that this is a major problem with the AL391. I've missed so many shots that can be directly attributed to the stupid sticky butt pad.
the last engineer
I admit that this is a major problem with the AL391. I've missed so many shots that can be directly attributed to the stupid sticky butt pad. wouldnt call it a major problem IC, if that were so Berreta would have done something about the many thousands of them out there, i have a couple of 391's myself, i dont have a problem with the pads at all, my O/Us are taped the semi's arent, ive only seen one 391 taped out here and there are a lot of em, just a preference thing realy, the gel tec pad has the slightly harder corners allowing the pad to slide, i think this is the style they call the "sporter pad" many after market comps supply them, another factor is the clothing worn by an individual, is it to loose and flopy, too many layers, shooting jackets with worn pads or tears, many reasons for the gun to not slide in smoothly. so if the gun is giving you that much greif, why keep it ??
