New shotgun ding :(

Hi guys,

Well, I posted some pics of my new silver pig and sx3 that I bought on Saturday, and since then I have noticed a small nick on the silver pigs rib :( it is no bigger than 1mm square but it is back to bare metal - hardly noticeable hence why I didn't see it before leaving the shop or even on the saturday evening when I got it home.

I'm not so concerned about the aesthetics side of it (don't get me wrong, I am seeing as it was over £1300, but it isn't the end of the world) but more of the durability aspect i.e. rusting if using in the rain.

What do you guys think I should do - would I have a leg to stand on if I want a replacement? The gun shop has been closed since I got home from making the purchase on Saturday until tomorrow.

I'm a bit gutted to be honest and not sure where I stand :cry1:

Could I have your opinions please?

If you have fired it not much chance on getting new gun but try it . I took a air rifle back years ago two days later but did send e mail to say it was scratched and did not shoot it two days later new gun. But have been going to the shop for 20 years. Just saw 1 mm sq you got superman vision.

Is the rib dented?

Hi mate, it is actually on the side of ythe rib - you can't see it if you mount the gun and look along the rib. It looks as though the side of the rib has been knocked - I can put up a pic of it if that explanation isn't great?

I haven't fired the gun - still exactly as I received it

While looking at new shotguns a while back I was amazed how many of all makes have rack marks and dings, some shop keepers realy don't seem to mind slamming them down on the counter and plenty of punters love to twirl them around and clonk the gun next to it putting it back in the stand. Gutting I know but if it is that small you will soon add one or two more without even knowing how you did it?

lol superman vision! No I haven't got superman vision - I just can't stop noticing it now, maybe I'm being too anal about it - I know the gun will get more scratched with use, but I would rather be the one to do the scratching. I left a telephone message yesterday and followed up with an email today - will have to wait and see what they say I suppose.

I have always been anal about maintenance of my air rifle bluing - I'm just worried that it is going to be a source of rust in bad weather? I always clean my guns when getting home after being out - but with it being bare I don't want to be worried about how long I can be used in bad weather etc

If it really bothers you, take it back to the shop and try your luck.

What you have to appreciate if you intend to use the gun in the field, is that you will probably "ding" it yourself within a few weeks.

As my Grandfather use to say, "never own a gun you are scared to take out on the marsh".

Exactly, I was really bothered by a finger print mark on the rib of my 686 when I first got it. That was until an errant bit of shattered Clay smacked into the stock leaving a dirty great gouge.

Now I just use it and don't worry too much about the aesthetics, as long as it gets cleaned after use it'll still serve me just as well as it ever did.
