peejay
ive a 2yr old small albino jill, very tame, last night when the sun went down i got her out on the patio, no problems, was walking over my legs and i was handling her. Then i went on the lawn, soon as i put her down then she started rolling round, scratching at the ground, her tail went very bushy-like a christmas tree-and she was a little hyper, then when i went to pick her up she spun round as if to bite me, so i waited and managed to grab her and got her back in the shed, could there have been some sort of sent on the ground? or mabie the heat? Cranfield
When the tail bushes she is in attack mode, whether she is playing , or not. Its probable she picked up the scent of a cat, or dog. A lot of people don't realise that ferrets have poor eyesight. Often when I approach mine to pick them up, they will go into attack stance. I then offer them my hand slowly, they recognise my scent, relax and can be picked up normally.
Ferret Master
Hi, Mine do this all the time if they are excited to see me, scenting something or playing. They often then do a 'frisk and a pounce and a bounce' then they are normal again. FM
flash
in our household we either call it bottlebrush or the weasel dance, its when they get excited or when they feel threatened. sounds as though it just smellt something interesting. cheers flash
Ferret Master
Yup, bottlebrush here as well. Echo the ferret has lost most of her tail hair like every year in the Summer because of rat tail syndrome so her poofing out attempts are rather pathetic.
