yep, 5 of them

i don't think beretta subscribe to the fleur de lys mark, from what i remember benelli don't either, mine says excelsior high strength alloy steel with a few stamped marks dotted here and there, from what i read in the book, they recommend not to use steel in fixed choke guns, and in multi choke no more than half choke, they also mention "beretta SP" this stands for steel proofed, but i can't find a mark on the barrels denoting this, anyone shed any light?

cheers,

gram.

My ultralight has the fleur de lys on it.

Could you check to see if the gun is magnum steel proofed (fleur de lys stamp) please, because on the Beretta site, it suggests that its not :hmm:

Just checked my gun mate, its stamped 12 GA 3 1/2 29 1/2 STEEL SHOT, hope this helps, they were made more for the american market, one of the best guns Ive had for awhile

My previous 686 had the fluer de lys stamped on the barrels also.

The 12g and 20g 3'' chambered guns are marked as magnum steel with the fluer de lys, but the 3.5'' was not, thats why I was unsure.

If it says steel shot then it is steel proofed, strange that Beretta dont just stick to one set of proof marks.

I think its mainly the grade of workmanship. If i am right(it could just be the ones i have used) 686's dont have Multi chokes and are more or a cheaper gun than the 687's. You certainly wont go wrong with beretta!

My 686 white onyx has multi chokes lovely gun :)

seems strange that a gun would have a 3" chamber but no steel proof mark, according to the link previously mine should have a proof mark, 12g, 30" barrels, m/c, silver pig s.

My previous 686 was made in the earlt 90's, that was m/c too.
