squab
hi I am new to this websight, i am intersted in what you would do if you found a young woodpigeon squab on the ground with no obvious damage, this happend to me today the bird was almost fully feathered but seemed to have just tried to fly from the nest and it did not work! above are the options think about it before voting, my intial reaction was different to what i did. i hope this works. Elma Fud
Squab Welcome to the site..... I see you have mastered it already
Cranfield
Welcome squab, I voted to kill the squab and leave it for a fox, rat etc. Rather than leave it as a "live meal".
Hammergun
I would kill the squab and take it home for the pot!! Better to get it rather than leave it as a live meal for a fox, or if it survived, to guzzle up the new drillings!!!
MAJ
As it's a pigeon, and therefore a pest, I would kill it humanely and take it home for the pot, or if too small, ferret fodder. If it were a protected species, I would follow the advice of the R.S.P.B (no I am not a member, but I do read their articles, some of which make sense) and leave it well alone. The parents are seldom far away.
tiercel
I voted to leave it where it is, and let nature take its course, if you hadnt happenend upon it, thats what would have happend.Perhaps we should do more of it.
Joey Squab
I'd go with what tiercel said. Let nature take its course. Its been doing this for a good few years so far without any trouble whatsoever.
brooktrout
Best left alone. Squabs are bulky awkward chicks and are often found on the ground. You can bet that the parent bird has a way of getting out of danger. Hardly worth eating anyway.
