poorpeet
Bloody thing scared the **** out of me last night! I was walking the dog last thing, I live on the outskirts of a town, and was on the path heading home when, from behind, it flew about 18" over my head an landed in about 10' up in a tree just ahead. Didn't half make me jump! I walked up to the tree and stood underneath it while it watched the dog and cat wander by. Then it turned & looked down at me for a minute then flew off. I can understand how it can be silent when gliding but when it took off from the tree it was flapping hard and only 4' over my head but it didn't make a sound. Weird. 955i
As they hunt by hearing rather than sight, they have to be able to fly silently and their feathers are specifically designed to allow this, similarly the discs around their eyes amplify sound. Fantastic birds

poorpeet
Yes the cat comes too. Gets most put out if shes asleep when I take the dog and so misses out. The dogs 15 now and doesn't always want to go out for his late walk. I still have to take the cat though!
