vole
Got a wmr on order. I very much prefer a shorter gun and at the moment not bothered about a moderator . Do many shooters use a shortened barrel without threading it ? I plan to have it chopped to 16 in all being well. Cheers .
Rimfireboy
It will be ok at that length but it will be loud without a mod. I'd get it screw cut if I was you
bedwards1966
It might reduce the velocity slightly when shortening it, but I don't think it'll be an issue. You're fine to get it done without threading it, personally for the extra cost I'd thread it and put on a cheap moderator, but that's only a matter of preference and it will be fine without. vole
To tell the truth I was going to get it threaded at a later date due to cost . Just wondering if a short barrel without a mod was widely used by UK shooters . Have only used and heard un moderated wmr so far you see so can't compare. I would certainly get it threaded at the same time it's chopped even if you don't fit a moderator, a simple thread protector will finish off the barrel. While its chucked up and being chopped and crowned theres not much more work to cut the thread.

Blunderbuss
One thing to be aware of, is that some rimfire rifle barrels (including CZs ISTR) are slightly choked at the muzzle which is supposed to improve accuracy. Dunno what make yours is, or if it has this, but something to be aware of - might be better to buy one with a shorter barrel in the first place. I doubt that chopping it would make a huge, or even noticeable difference to real world accuracy though. Jolly
My local rfd shortened and threaded and re crowned for £
vole
Been quoted from £45 to £100 for shortening and threading/ crowning . I guess these figures are with and without re proofing . It is quite cheap so would not mind losing out resale value and using it not reproofed . Thanks for all comments . I will get it sorted in a couple of months probably once I have got used to how it shoots .
Vermincinerator
I shortened my Ruger 77/22 VMBZ down to 15" have not shot it without a mod but it is still as accurate as it was with a 22" barrel and much handier, only probelm is it really likes RWS 40grn soft points which at £17.50 per 50 stings the pocket a bit. Livefast123
I Shortened my CZ .22LR semi auto barrel down to 14" and had it screwcut at the same time. Accuracy doesnt seem to be effected but the only thing now is that it is pretty loud when target shooting with no mod. I had a faux muzzle guard made up to act as a thread protector for the range. I just love short barrels and it is so much more pointable now.
