drone
As it says on the lid really, I'm about to restart pigeon shooting over decoys and need to get the bare essentials. It would be nice if suppliers were recommended and also blackballed where the experience has been less than a happy one. I already have a small arsenal of smoothbores and a dozen or so pigeon shell decoys. I like the look of those ghillie suits and wonder if they are as effective as they look. All replies sincerely appreciated.

FUDs x 6 (12 would be better) Bouncers (2 of or more) Whirly (dont have one myself but plenty on here will say you cant do without one) Stealth net & hide poles Sturdy seat (swivelling bucket) Face veil Thoroughly recommend The Pigeonshooter (go and see him at one of the fairs, Paul's a great guy). Lots on here don't recommend ############## Good luck
drone
Thanks, spanj, perhaps I won't be in for as much as I thought. My first few forays will probably be under the watchful eye of a club member where I may join so I can fine tune after a couple of outings. Surprised you didn't mention a wetsuit and flippers all the rain we've been having in kent!

If you're looking for a good set up i would recommend: flock coated shell decoys, a pigeon magnet, some decent hide poles (possibly more than 4 - i carry 8-10) and maybe a stealth net or two. If after a while you fancy getting more, get a turbo flapper and some cradles.

If after a while you fancy getting more, get a turbo flapper and some cradles. Get yourself a (big, or x2) nets, 4 poles, a bag, and a mix of at least 12 decoys (Solid/shell, anything really) with springs and pegs. There we go, you've now got the same gear I've had, when on a couple of occasions I've had 100+ days. (I didn't even had a seat one day). Magnets, floaters, flappers, etc, are all really useful but I believe that too many people start buying expensive gadgets before they've even got the basics mastered. Get the simple stuff, spend some time in the field, get learning what pigeon flight lines and feeding habits look like, knowing 'what you are doing', and learning from mistakes will always give you better results. sixhills 69
Ghillie suits are great under flight lines.

pickerup
drone. mottys got it right, i would add to that, a chair with adjustable legs, and an umbrella, both from a fishing tackle shop.
CropSafari
I started out properly this Feb with just a few shell decoys. Instead of poles + net, I'd get into a ditch and maybe drag a bit of undergrowth about for a makeshift hide. After all that faffing and plenty of wasted time, I went out and got a hide kit, flapper and 12 FUDs. I've since added to the list with a few bits, but shot plenty with just the basics. If you don't mind the waiting, eBay throws up bargains now and again. Good luck.

rainman_l
Try Wilkinsons for hide poles - they have an extendable washing line holder for tuppance. Use a plastic drum with a lid for a seat and to carry the gear.
T-Bolt94
Hide poles for me, pack of 10 plastic coated bamboo canes from B&Q with 3 hooks screwed into each one. 10£ tops covers your poles and I stopped off at poundland and got a rubber mallet and a gardening dibber and so far I am yet to find a fault!! Cheep and effective
