wildfowling and dog training

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Been looking through a few wildfowling pics I took, mainly from last season, and put them into a vid.

Went out last night for some pre harvest dog training! Just need the pigeons now. She is a young dog and we are both still learning. (I know not everyone likes music in videos but Im just playing with the software)

Nice vid! Some good pics in it :good:

Reminded me im needing a few new hides for this year. What were you using?

Its the stealth net in harvest or autumn colour. Cant remember what they call it but its the lighter coloured one. Its excellent against reeds, yellow grass etc

love the vids steve

did you build up the recall with your dog so it was 100% before trying to do the steadiness and the dummy through?

sorry for the question - it is just that i am struggling to get a retrieve when sending my lab too far away.

nice looking dog you have got too.

Before any 'gundog' work, I worked on all the basics such as sitting, stay, and recall. When she would sit on the whistle, I then worked on the stop whistle. After that , we worked on doing stuff at distance. A little bit each other day was fine. Her retrieve went through the usual problems of running past me, dropping it short, etc but each time we just went back a stage and kept calm. (not easy!!).

If I got to a point where I thought I needed help, I went to see a professional trainer for a session. We probably had 4 sessions in total. One lesson I have learn't is dont get frustrated or angry, just get help.

Hi Steve, thanks for the vids.

Had my first trip on the Exe last winter, Topsham side. Quite an adventure, had to cross the canal in an inflatable with dogs + guns in the dark. My dog retrieved two mallard from the river on a blind retrieve, I was well chuffed with her as its her first time on the river. I didnt perform as well as her, missing a chance on a goose :lookaround: Going to join this autumn, do you shoot south bank ever?

You must be proud of the dog, youve done a good job :good:

Whats the music in the first vid please?

Cheers, MM

I dont often shoot the canal bank side. No reason, I just prefer the peace of the other side by Exton. I might do a couple of flights there this year. I went once last year and got a canada as I was walking off. Dont worry, I missed more than my fair share last year on the geese! The music is from youtube as I edited the video, not sure what it is called to be honest.
