Ricko
Continuing from a previous thread. My daughter's contract phone has finished and I have fitted an activated giffgaff sim card. The phone needs to be unlocked, where can I get it done and how much Cheers

andypaint
Your daughters contract company might be able to unlock it over the phone, its worth asking.
Ricko
Ah great minds think alike. I have just had a look on the 3 website, they can supply a code for £15.32 Do I just enter it into the phone
andypaint
No, they do it all their end, and you just wait and wait, might take upto two days to unlock. But some phones never work as well signal wise once unlocked. Worth a punt though.
BerettaSV10
Ah great minds think alike. I have just had a look on the 3 website, they can supply a code for £15.32 Do I just enter it into the phone Best of luck getting the code off 3, they are noted on some forums for not providing them. What should happen is you request the code off the network and depending on the network will send you by text / email or snail mail the code and instructions on how to use the code, which can take around a week. Thet normally add the cost to your next phone bill or ask you to top up by the required unlocking fee if you don't have enough credit left. Some phones will require you to put another networks sim in while others can be done with out using another networks sim. You could also try your local unlocking store (seams to be most towns have a shop or market stall that will unlock them). One other problem with a 3 provided phone is they disable the menu that allows you to manually switch between gsm and umts signal which may cause problems if you are in a weak umts signal area. vole
Unlocking codes are sold on ebay. I have used them a few times. Always worked. Plenty of dodgy looking shops offer the service while you wait. Ps . Have only paid up to £12 btw .
