243ack
panacur 2.5% add to the water its a sheep and cattle wormer Not licensed for pheasant or partridge - but I seem to remember reading in 'Time' magazine or something that 10ml per 100 6week old birds should do the trick!!. Paul223
Panacur 10% not SC (selenium & cobalt), 1ml to 1 liter, if it's as wet there as it is here I can't see your birds drinking it, you could try adding avi lyte b plus (has glucose added) the birds like that it may help. If you gently open one or two birds up you should be able to see the worm attached in the windpipe area of the throat. If you want to see what they can look like search bing / google for syngamus trachea images searching for gapes will take you somewhere completly different :yp:

mark g
aye there's wormer in the mini pellets what is the name of the drug that is in the pellets? avatec is routinely incorporated into game feed but is a coccidiostat as is baycox and will not cure gapes or any other worms, as paul said aspergillosis and also infectious bronchitus give similar symptoms to gapes, flubenvet is what i use but panacur is faster if you are loseing birds, when its very wet like it has been, it is more useful to mix the panacur with a bit of vegetable oil and mix into the pellets, a cement mixer is handy for this job, above all dont leave it any length of time before you act, the birds start to feed less and less and then become exposed to other diseases and it can all spiral downwards very quickly

If you do decide to use Panacur, I agree that the vegitable oil carrier and mix with feed is far more effective than adding the product to drinking water. Whilst the water goes milky, the active ingredient settles out and falls to the bottom of the doseing drum. Panacur is no longer a cheap quick fix, it may be easier and slightly more cost effective to buy in correctly medicated feed. Some feed companies have their own vet on hand who can issue a prescription for the issue of feed which is pre medicated and ready for delivery, they do not usually make a charge for the prescription. Its agood idea to have multi vitamins on hand, ready for immediate use should the signs of any disease or ailment show. You can quickly dose the water whilst you sort out the appropriate medication. The multivits won't cure any disease at all, but they will give the birds a boost and relieve stress caused by the illness, thus assisting the birds to fight whilst you seek assistance and appropriate medication. webber
JustJon
Oh dear. Flubenvet isn't the same as panacur. Flubenvet is Flubendazole, Panacur is Fenbendazole. Flubendazole has a wider activity range as far as I'm aware - couple of articles this month (GWCT, NGO) talking about increased grouse numbers since the moors moved from Panacur to Flubenvet. Flubendazole in water is Solubenol - Not licensed for game but a vet can prescribe. Flubenvet can be prescribed by either a vet or an SQP, it's SQPs that your feed company may have (same as when you get meds from the cabinet in Pets at Home). Wet weather this year is increasing worm risk massively - if you treat today then treat again in 3 weeks (takes 3 weeks for worm to go from egg to adult). Paul223
ok we started with gapes (for the second time this year!!) last wednesday, and they are now sorted, yours would be looking quite horrendous and you would be losing birds if the wormer was not effective. What are the symptoms your seeing?

Paul223
oh dear that does not sound good, box two of them up and take them to a specialist vet my money would be on aspergillosis, any mouldy bedding / straw? if thats the case be careful as you can catch it up too, wear a proper mask and do not disturb the affected area, better to cover it over than disturb and release the spores
