The Essex Hunter
With laid wheat being flavour of the month, I had a ride around a little way out of my area this lunch time and found a big field of laid wheat. It looked as it should be full of pigeons….nothing! I drove 200 yards down the road and on the right birds dropping in a second field of flat wheat. There was a farm on route so took a drive down the track and found one of the lads and asked for the boss….sorry he is out…. With the 300 + birds on the field as part of my pitch I asked for his number and called him…. Yes you can go was the reply! Back home to get the kit to see what I could make of the afternoon. The first set up proved it is worth moving…6 birds in an hour as they were slipping past. Up poles and 150 yards move produced 42 more. Over all it worked quite well for a pitch up and shoot afternoon. Lost quite a few in the standing wheat so what you see is what I could find….
