hi guys was out shooting last night just in very tired but here goes, when i was out using my 17hmr 452 i had the sights on a rabbit and all i got was click when i pulled the trigger and i have read many posts on some bad rounds from hornady and low and behold i got one last night it has managed to push the head up the barrel very slightly i think (to tired to have a proper look)

my question is can u get it out from the front of the barrel pushing the head back or do you need to push it all the way forward till it pops out the front of the barrel and if anyone has had this problem before what did you use to get the head out and was it very dificult HELP...

kind regards

scot

Depending on the type, the rod will have either a male or female thread on the business end. The former can go off at an angle and make life difficult and the latter is ideal as it goes over the bullet keeping it straight and so easier to remove but may damage the thread. A good idea is to use an old brush, mop, whatever which can be 'worked' to do the same as the female end with risk to the threads.

Edit: Add missing letter.

once again thanks for the correct advice ppl 17hmr cleaning rod down the barrel and a couple of taps with a very small hammer and out it popped phew glad that's over with.

anyway i have the old shell and you can see the powder in it but if you turn it upside down the powder seems to stay in the shell anyone had this and have any ideas why this happened?

i wonder has it anything to do with the ammo being damp at one time or another.Im tryin to see if i keep it in a warm environment to see the outcome. just a thought.a local dealers gun room would remind me of somewhere that could get cold and damp.that was my thoughts that they may have Sat a while and got damp

I believe its all due to cracks in the neck and condensation getting to the powder..ive said to mate who have had same probs to inspect there ammo before using..and a few have found quite a few with slight cracks in the neck...ive been lucky as i bought my ammo in bulk a few yrs ago before this prob started with split necks..im now on my last 100+ so i will also then have start checking when i buy new.
