sammyboy
i've just got a new .223 remmy vssf.for the first ten shots i shot cleaned, shot cleaned. and when i say cleaned i mean run a bore snake through it. then i proceeded to zero and try a few different rounds obviously waiting between each shot to let the barrel cool down. i tryed several different brands and none of them seem to be grouping to well.2"at 100 yards. my hmr can do better which is never a good sign.not saying the hmr is unacurate but you know what i mean. do i need to put a few more shots through it before it starts to settle down. does anybody have any advise cheers
henry d
do i need to put a few more shots through it before it starts to settle down. You`ve answered your question here.
Frank
Bore snake is no good for proper cleaning, on a centerfire rifle. Get yourself a one peace rod (PARKER HALE) and a good quality jag, bronze brush, bore guied, solvents and patches. Frank.
Dead-Eyed Duck
Frank is spot on here. Bin your bore snake for centrefire use, as it will not remove the copper fouling. If your barrel is lightweight, then it will rapidly heat up after 10 rounds or so, and start to affect the group size. If it is a heavy weight then you have a lot longer. What I do (and no doubt others may give you better advice based on range experience) is to shoot groups of three careful shots, and then to leave for 5 minutes with the bolt back to encourage cooling. DaveK
Once it's shot in I suggest 22gn Vit N133 with a 55gn head. Lorraine shoots thumbnail groups at 100 yds through her Remy VS (cut down to 16" with a T8 on the end). Trakker01 has seen it in action but not at a paper target. reefman
I am at last running in my .223 using American Eagle 50g Groups at 150 yds are not that hot about 3-4''.10 mph cross wind I am cleaning after every 6 shots now, have fired a total of 60 rounds. Will the rifle barrel take time to settle down with use and groups tighten. I love the set trigger on the cz Reefman
Frank
They should do reefman. If you can, get out their on a dead calm day, with no wind and have a rock steady rest. My CZ .223, groups 1 & a 1/2 inches at 200yds with the Americam eagles. Let us know how you get on. :o Nice set up by the way. Frank. DaveK
See how low you can get behind the rifle (I notice your bipod is at full stretch). The lower the better. Nice Landy Dave

deadeye ive
See how low you can get behind the rifle (I notice your bipod is at full stretch). The lower the better. Nice Landy Dave Agreed Sammyboy There are 2 schools of thought ......to clean and not to clean once the barrel is run in .From personal experience I found ballistic tip or hollow point gave the best results SP's seem to group like a shotgun no matter what I tried . BTW ..........I clean after every outing but only with a jag and course muslin and the zero holds perfectly .If I use a brush then the first few shots are all over the place so I no longer bother ..........It's what ever your happy doing yourself that matters .
