A few rabbits from a new permission.

Recommended Posts

I created this video more to highlight the need for quick and careful assessment of every shot before the shot is taken while out shooting rather than to show any "excellent marksmanship"!

This permission is fraught with potential problems and not all of the rabbits on it are shootable because of the lack of backstops and the chances of ricochets which could endanger anyone near or on the main road or the nearby houses. This is highlighted at about 6:15 where there are several rabbits which would be "easy shots" but to try to shoot them would (In my opinion) have been dangerous.

I have however discovered several safe shooting positions where I can shoot safely without endangering anyone or any property.

You form your own opinions, here's the video!

Nice vid(as usual):enjoyed that.See what you mean about problems though, each way you look you don,t have much leeway & that's before wind direction constrains you further.Aside from safety issues I am very dubious of shooting in sight of houses these days, even when you are in the right the hassle caused by "a concerned member of the public" is not nice.It looks a nice spot,I hope you are left in peace to enjoy it.

Good shooting pete. There are never that many rabbits out when I come out with you :hmm: It must be me. ;)

It's a relatively new permission Nik, one that I haven't taken you on yet. I'm not even sure that the landowner would allow me to take a "guest" on this permission. Unfortunately because of the "neighbours" and their proximity the use of a shotgun would be out of the question anyway mate!

A shotgun would spoil the meat anyway - Why ruin perfectly good meat by loading it up with lead shot?

the anti have won if its controlling the way you shoot pal.i would call it in with the police and the get on with it.a man as carefull as you has nothing to hide.was it a 22lr you are using?good shooting.

Mike, I can do nothing but agree with what you say about the antis - To a certain extent! Part of the problem comes about because the land owner is a well known and respected in that area and even though he wants the rabbits thinned down he does not want any "come backs" from the residents. If it were not for that I might well do exactly what you say - Phone it in and just get on with the job in hand. Because he has said that he would like me to do the job "as discretely as possible" I have to respect his instructions!

As for your question about what gun I was using - It is my Browning Pump Action .22LR fitted with a SAK moderator and a set of Simmons 3-9X50 scopes using Magtech Sub-Sonic Ammunition. The video actually makes it sound a little louder than it really is because when monuted on the scopes the camcorder is just 2 inches away from and alongside of the breach! In reality it is a lot quieter than a springer air rifle, making it the ideal "bunny bashing tool"!

fair enough pal.i have just picked up a little rimmy 22 for how quiet they are after getting shut of one years ago because of those ricochets.they have a place and are great fun to shoot.
