changing rifle

Hi all, I was wondering if anybody could help me...

i am looking for a .22 rimfire rifle for hunting. at the moment i own a cz 452 varmint with a 21inch barrel and although it is the most accurate thing in the world it is a bit long and cumbersome, especially with my moderator on the end.

I am looking for another CZ this time with a 16inch barrel. Ive been looking at the silhouette with a synthetic stock just to give a bit more durability but the stock looks a bit short, as if made for a woman or child.

if anybody has any suggestions, please leave a comment.

all the best. Fudd

Bloody hell! It's going up every time I drop in on this thread!Mine cost 35 quid for the chop,re-crown and re-thread less than a year ago.Two mates were so impressed with mine they have both just had theirs done;a Finnfire and a CZ,price was still 35 quid each.Somebody is being ripped off!

Try and find out who does your RFD's work(unless it's in house)and you will get it much cheaper.

Have a shop round of course, but it's easy to pay that sort of money for it. I had to pay £75 for a threading job - and that was better than the £120 I'd been told it would be by somewhere else.

The trouble is, it's not worth driving that far for a cheaper price if you find one. If I find a shop 30 miles away that does it for £30 less (which is the best saving your likely to find), after taking it there then picking it up again it's going to cost me about £40 in fuel!

Getting it shortened is probably your best bet, that way you keep a rifle your happy with, save the hassle of buying/selling/variations etc and get the exact length you feel is best.

Even if i do get it cut down i would still want a synthetic stock and aftermarket ones come in at arount £400! Thats why i was looking at the 452 synthetic however that then means a **** load of paper work selling my shared gun just so i am able to buy a new one. It seems like i'm stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment.

Unless you bought used you will lose our massively in px. Get it chopped

Yep.Have to agree.Unless the wood on your present model is exhibition grade(and therefore you don't want it too marked)I wouldn't be too worried about the durability of it.It will handle all manner of abuse unless you keep dropping it or something similar. These rifles were designed as work horses and are as tough as they come.

Shop around for someone who comes recommended, and don't worry about the re-proof;it isn't necessary.

There is a RFD near Carlisle who charges £70 for the chop,re-crown and re-thread of rifles, but a mate found out he doesn't do them in house,he sub's the work out.The bloke who does the work charges the dealer £35.Now I don't mind anyone making a profit, but DOUBLE the going rate? For doing what?Shop around, and get it chopped.I promise you wont regret it.
