Many moons ago a friend of mine was issued with a diesel company car.

His wife had a petrol driven car that was due to be changed, so to avoid mistakes (and benefit from the reduced mpg), they got her a diesel powered car.

The first time my friend filled up his wife's car, he put 40 litres of petrol in it.

She never let him forget that and with just the slightest prompting, will tell the whole sorry story to anyone who will listen.

Mate of mine did this a few month ago.

I had to tow him home from the garage and pump the contents out of the car and refil with a full tank of diesel.

He felt a little belittled also but i guess it may even happen to me at some point

I wouldn't worry about it personally as they say there are about 300 calls nation wide a month for the same reason.

Im a Facilities manager for a car hire firm................

Just think of the number of noddies that we get putting deisel into petrol, or worse still petrol into diesel.....

On the average Astra CDTi I believe it was setting us back around 1800 quid if the person started the car up.

On the common rail deisels, it really ******* the engine up if they started it up, injectors and everything needed changing........

Best one we ever had was a woman calling up complaining that she had got a flat tyre on the car.........she was saying that we should provide vehicles where the tyres dont go down...........was going to say that we no longer rent the model t ford madam with the hard rubber tyres.........

I have seen loads of common fuel rail engines being fired up and attempts to drive them LL. I have never had to do anything other than drain, flush and fit new fuel filters. Is the Vauxhall prone to this?
