Fraz
Looking to add a set of digital scales to the 'reloading shelf', currently have a Lee beam scale for check weighing powder but would like to have a scale that can check-weigh finished cartridges (case, powder, primer, head) ie must be able to take that total weight (.38 Special) Only looking to buy once - looking around the £100 mark but would apprecate feedback on whats worth the money. Cheers
phaedra1106
I would get a set of the Smart Reloader from Kranks or a £10 set off Ebay if it's only for checking completed weights, spend the rest on an RCBS 5-0-5 beam scale and sell the Lee, much more accurate and consistent for powder weight where it matters most. Once you see the difference you'll wish you'd done it sooner Edited August 23, 2012 by phaedra1106
al4x
I have to say I find throwing the charge into my RCBS beam scales gives a very consistent charge with weighing every one. Its actually faster than my mates chargemaster as a technique
coyotemaster
++++RCBS 505 plenty accurate and faster than a digital
dicehorn
I have the RCBS Rangemaster 750 - had it 12 years now - very precise, comes with two calibration weights, saves all the faffing about with moving various weights on a beam scale. Want to weight your cases and or heads - just plonk them on the scales and immediately read off the result. If mine broke today I would get another tomorrow. A bit more than £100 but like you said - buy once. 1066
++++RCBS 505 plenty accurate and faster than a digital And another thumbs up for a good beamscale - RCBS 502, 505 or redding No2 will last a life time. I do have a good digital scale and except the fact that it is probably the right tool to weigh your loaded rounds but I always weigh my powder on a beam scale. Have to agree with going with a 505 beamscale, I use the lee powder dispenser to put slightly under weight into the cases then trickle up to weight on the beam scale. 1066
Just to note that the common RCBS range of beam scale, 502,505, 5-10 and 10/10 all use exactly the same floating agate bearing /knife edge set-up so none is more accurate than the other, they just have different poise systems to set the desired weight. This is my 502 scales in action:
