smokinggun
Hi Guys, I was hoping someone would be able to help me i used to do a fair bit of coarse fishing on a local river and obviously had my rod license and my club membership but as i am going to great yarmouth for a short break soon i was hoping to pass some time doing a spot of beach fishing not for anything in particular, My question is do i need a rod license or any club membership for this or am i right in thinking beach fishing requires no paperwork at all to use a rod or am i limited to those orange hand lines? I know a lot of members here are big in to fishing so im hoping someone can help as all i can find on a google search is confusion. Cheers guys P.s anyone got any tips on bait etc as im guessing the usual maggots and bread wont cut it? Whitebridges
Ahoy SG, you don't need a license to fish in the sea. Where are you staying in Yarmouth? This time of year the beaches will be packed out with grockles (holiday makers), so you will be limited to fishing early in the morning or late evening which is the best this time of year anyway. If you want to find some sanctuary from the tourists try fishing Gorleston harbour, you can fish in the river (Yare) or the seaward side. Expect to catch dabs, bass, flounder and maybe an early whiting or two, depends on the timing of your visit. There is a very good tackle shop in Gorleston http://www.gorlestontackle.co.uk/ where you can buy bait. It is very close to the harbour. They usually have lugworm and ragworm and a few peeler crab. If you go to the expense of fishing peeler crab there might be a few smoothhound about. Jason in the tackle shop will give you good advice on where to fish if you ask him. This website often has reports posted on the catches in the Gt. Yarmouth area. http://www.worldseaf...orts-amp-Advice Best of luck and I hope you catch! Lord Geordie
I saw a belting bass caught off Cromer pier a few year back. Had to be at least a 6lb er. The chap was chuffed to bits.

I bet he was, that would be absolutely fantastic but if i come away having caught anything regardless of size i'll be more than happy, just relaxing doing a spot of quiet fishing is good enough for me
Catweazle
Crab is a very useful bait, but read up on how to mount it - plenty of elastic. It's no fun to cast and see your expensive crab bait fly off in a different direction to the hook.
