caplock
opti-mate 5-20x50 Cheers Kirky, never heard of opti mate, where did you get yours from??
crieffy
A nice'n'simple Bushnell 10x40 mildot scope for me. I used to have a 4-16x44 scope but found I almost always had it on 10x mag anyway. I find the mildots handy for aiming off due to wind. deadeye ive
Simmons pro air 4 x 12 x 40 £150..1/8 MOA at 100yds Although it's a dedicated air rifle target scope the light gathering capabilities when light starts to fade are superb .In fact I was so impressed I bought another for my .223 B) Alass there not made anymore but you can still buy them and probably for a cheaper price than I paid . dunganick
i quite like my bushnell 6-24x40, (past 20x is rubbish) its just been put on my rimfire, so we will see if it behaves itself this weekend.
miffy
I have a Swarovski 8x56 on top of my .17HMR and its is a superb scope....it should be for £500 though I also have a 2.5-10 x44 Optimate scope on my .22rf and that is a good scope for the money
Ferretboy111
6.5-20*50 Hawke nite eye mil dot, IR Keep it on 20 mag usually hitting the head on most shots out to and beyond 100yrds, use the small mag for closer ranges. Had a 4-12*44 hawke airmax but didnt find it sufficient in my eyes. Alex
apbuild
Swarovski? Great but loads of money! If I could afford to, I would equip all of my rifles with these scopes. Rob.
miffy
Swarovski? Great but loads of money! If I could afford to, I would equip all of my rifles with these scopes. Rob. Got 2 an 8x56 on my .17 and an 8x50 on the .243. The optimate scope is perfect for the .22rf but if funds allowed i would get a swaro for that too
dunganick
my old man has a 6x42 swaro on his rimfire. Frankly 6x is not enough for a .22lr and its wasted on a rimfire. Still a bloody good scope.
kirky640
opti-mate 5-20x50 Cheers Kirky, never heard of opti mate, where did you get yours from?? they are made by edgar brothers and i find them bang on as well as focus you can turn the other end which has 10,50,100and 300yards marked on it and i use it as a range finder , well it can give some indiction of how far away your pry is due when it focuses correctly it also gathers light great on the darkning and at 160 quid was a steal cheers kirky ps im no exspert B)
caplock
Cheers all for the replies, plenty to be looking at. I've got a Nikko Sterling Gold Crown Tactical bolted up top at the moment 4-12X50 AO no 4 reticule illuminated. Whilst excellent at night I'm looking for a bit more mag for daylight shooting. Trouble is the No4 reticule ( as I've tried to sketch below) is spot on for bracketing the target, not too fussy and a doddle at night but I need that extra mag (or glasses!!) for the long range stuff. Never been too fussed by mildots as the .17 has such a flat traject that I've been able to compensate well enough out to 150 yds but a bit more mag would help boost the comfort factor in taking the long shots. Axe
I have a Nikko Stirling Night Eater 30mm 6-24x56, its a very big scope but I like it alot. The recticle is illuminated with mil-dots and fine cross hairs. It also has sadle mounted parallax which comes quite usefull, but if I went again I wouldnt have parallax. All in all its a very good sturdy scope, got mine from Optics Warehouse at a very good price.
deadeye ive
All I can say is caplock is that higher mag can be deceiving in the way you think it helps with long range .For 150 yds 8x mag is more than suitable ............Any higher and you could be amplifying any shakes or wobbles and end up with a cross air dancing all over the place . It's a very good point you raise about the quality of your own eyesight though
caplock
Hmm, I suppose I'll have to trawl round the shops and pick a few up. Trouble is peering through the shop window and accross the road rarely gives the true 'feel' of the scope. I have heard somewhere that BSA make a scope dedicated to the HMR round as insofar that the turrets are suposidly calibrated to the 17 grain bullets ballistic properties over various ranges. Anyone know if this is hearsay or fact?? Cheers
