hi guys

have been banging away at the clays with my cheap £350 fun gun but now has come the time to invest in something decent.

ive narrowed it down to 3 guns

Silver pigeon 1 ( new )

686 E ( used )

686 gold E ( used )

Budget is around £1500

has anybody got any advise on were best to put my money? will be looking at either a 30" or a 32" barrel as im finding my current 28" setup is a little short and is limited with fixed chokes.

any advise would be great

I was in a similar position, looking for a quality O/U to keep forever and learn how to use properly. I read loads of advice on here and other forums and the 682 Gold E kept coming up as a good gun. You can get a mint used one for less than your £1500 budget, and it ought to last you for years. It has replaceable wear parts to keep it going. It's quite heavy, that might be a consideration for you or not, some people don't mind.

thanks for the info guys, i was gunna to buy a 682 gold E from the word go but my local dealer got me looking at the silver pigeon 1 and i thought it would be nice to have a new gun.

i shot a 682 gold e about 5 years ago when i first started shooting and i loved it.

looks like its time to start searching GT for a nice one

I was in exactly the same boat as you a couple of months back and eventually bought a Sliver Pig sporter(new).I must confess to being dissapointed at 1/ The safety catch was so stiff that it needed both thumbs to move it (my local gunsmith stated that he had "fixed" several new Sil Pigs recently with the same fault) and 2/The wood/metal fit was no better than my far cheaper guns-in fact around the butt plate it was worse.Luck was on my side ,however, and as the dealer had sent the wrong handed gun I was able to get a full refund-bought a 525 and am happy as a pig in **** :good: .
