I took a young lad along who I am mentoring, and typically he got the duck. Three wigeon bagged by him on evening flight, nothing moved on the tide except swarms of golden plover, and they finished the moment we got in position. I missed a mallard that was quite high then later on dark missed a pair almost on barrel end, so it was entirely my own fault for leaving empty handed.

i was out on the tide, had a cracking flight, 6 teal, 2wigeon and a mallard, but the pintail, in there hundreds, stayed just out of range. as i got back to the seawall( tide was well in by then, up to the sea wall its self) i was packing everything away, when i spied a single pink out at sea, i called it right over my head, and dropped it first barrel, how it never saw me and the dog i dont know! we were just stood there!

Sat in work this morning listening to the wind wondering why on earth i'm not out on the marsh!

Had a Day off work when that happened some years back, had a hundred mile to get to the wash. Best days flighting I ever had, Even the forman thought I did not look well, got the lad and away we went magic, magic ,magic: pintail, mallard.. what a morning:: Still see it now 25 years later.
