Nikk
I'm going to introduce the doggy to cold game shortly and am looking for somewhere to get Partridge ideally. I can ask in the butchers I suppose but they're charging a lot from the prices I saw last year and also I want them fresh as possible or frozen rather than hung for food. Does anyone know where I can get some from? Cheers Nick
eccles
Try a shoot near you, keepers usually have some spare.Down this way you can pick them up free or for a couple of pounds a brace.
MiLisCer
Do you not beat or pick up? most of our shoots will happily give you a brace or several at the end of the day.

Unfortunately no, that's what I'm aiming for with this dog, but I don't really know many people that shoot. I could probably get pheasant but I'd rather something smaller to get started with. I'll see what price the butcher can do but I bet he charges a fiver each!
MiLisCer
He should no longer sell them in the feather!! - find someone in the pub who shoots or beats etc and ask them. Where in Cheshire are you? Mike

Nikk
Thanks Dollseyes! I'll send a PM Nikk You might have more success with woodys D Well the problem is the feathers are fluffy and fall off easily and it puts dogs off, although you can put them in a sock etc
Nikk
First off thanks to everyone who offered to help me out on this it is really appreciated. Dollseyes sorted me out 3 partridge yesterday. Thanks mate! In the end it turned out to be not much of a big deal. I showed him one in the house and he got pretty excited. Then I took him out to a country park in the pouring rain and we did some retrieving, no time at all he was retrieving to hand just like his rabbit dummies. On the way back I was going to put it in some gorse where the foxes would probably take it, I slyly threw it in and walked off, when I looked down there was Ollie with the partridge trotting to heel. It was pretty funny. I let him carry it back to the car a good 10 minute walk. Next I'm going to try to find somewhere to introduce the gun/starter pistol and the partridge will help me in that because I will fire a starter pistol in to my game bag and throw him the partridge so making the connection. I reckon it will be fairly easy because he's not shown any nervousness towards fireworks and a year ago I nearly blew us both up when a cigarette lighter fell out of my pocket in to my open fire and exploded lol. Anyway once again thanks to everyone who offered to help and especially thanks to Dollseyes I'm been getting stressed out about this for ages.
