Air Arms Silencer- Are they any good ?

I bought this for my S410 and to be honest when I shoot at night the whole field clears of rabbits and the next one after a shot . Yet on the You Tube vids I see guys shooting them at 30-40 yards one after another with minimal disturbance . I know wind direction helps but it seems to happen every time . Any thoughts or suggestions ?

No they are not much use, try a Twink or an HW!

Agree, virtually useless. Get an HW100 mod. You can fit it with an adapter which doesn't work very well, and they look rubbish. They don't tighten properly and will induce clipping. I bought a second hand HW mod, took the internals out of the AA mod and put the HW internals in it. You will have to file the HW baffles (washers) down a bit a they are slightly larger, and trim back the haircurlers/felt. Its now whisper quiet :good:

Unfortunately with the s410 having such a thin barrel and the end machined specifically for the AA mod, the only option you have then is to use an adapter so you can screw the HW mod on or any other with a 1/2 inch thread. With the s510 and many others that have a shrouded barrel, they will be screw cut for a mod.

How about taking the AA silencer to bits and modifying it . Can it be done ? They are only made up of felt washers and hair curlers arent they ?

You can try. Go on youtube and do a search on aa mod. I tried all sorts, even replicating the HW internals. Weihrauch must have magic dust sprinkled on thier parts because you can't get close!! Getting the AA mod apart is the trickiest bit as they are threadlocked on. The HW has an allen key cut in the muzzle end so its easy to take apart. Once you have the two mods apart, it will take you half an hour of carefull filing. If you have a mate with a lath to turn the washers down, even better.

Cant say as my AA silencer/mod is loud and theres a huge difference if you take it off-shot 2 squirrels off my shed roof Sun morning-second customer jumped at the sound of pellet impact on his pal but only ran a few feet-if he heard the shot as the gun fired second time he made a huge, life changing, mistake by not moving :innocent: .My S400 is putting out 11 ft/lb-maybe guns nearer the limit are a bit more vocal??

Well, my s410 came with the standard Air Arms silencer and when i fire it, the only thing i can hear is the hammer and the pellet hitting its target. Not being one to keep a gun standard for long, I decided to "upgrade" it to a brand new HW100 silencer. The difference? F all. I cant tell any difference at all. Both are as quiet as each other.

Ive no idea if my Air Arms silencer has been modified, but i really doubt it.

As someone else said, the higher the power your gun, the more noise it will generate. Mines running 11.5.

Both my AA moderators fitted to my TX and 510 are quieter on than off, never tried any othe make or modifications. Not had any issues when out hunting rabbits, never done a sound check. Could do to do a sound check with a camera/recorder to check the sound difference at hunting range of 30 yards.

100 pc agree with jackinbox,,,, :good:

Cheers. From the sounds of it, I think the silencer the OP has must be faulty or the gun has some sort of issue. Ive been out shooting rabbits before and if theres 2 rabbits sitting there side by side, i can shoot one, and the other one doesnt even look up - so you can then reload and put a pellet in him too.
