Mr Rizzini
I reblued barrels with the birchwood casey stuff, It takes forever to do but is cheap, perhaps you could have a go at it and if you aint happy then get it done professionally. If it was only £40 or so then be best to have it done by a pro.

RichardH
This is the bit that always cracks me up. A bottle of cold blue is £15 or so... Now to use it you have to strip the gun completely, remove all the old finish, corrosion and pitting with many grades of abrasive, polish to a suitable matt or mirror finish, degrease in three seperate 100 degree baths before you apply your choice of cold firearm manufacturer isnt a plating or coating it is the surface of the actual steel itself given a black oxide coating by the caustic salts at 144 Celcius, a mirror polish will always give a mirror black, a matt blasted surface will give a very matt black. Most of the blacking houses will black parts, prepared by the client on a dip only basis for similar money to a bottle of cold blue as long as you are confident of your polishing skills. Some days I think we should give up and just sell bottles of snake oil Rich Edited November 27, 2012 by RichardH
elgreco
Will the snake oil give a gloss or matt finish? ;-) Sometimes it's worth leaving things to someone with the equipment and experience, regardless on how much enthusiasm you have, if you ain't got the gear you can't do the job as well as a pro Cheers Tom Edited November 28, 2012 by elgreco
