Lampwick
So it's renewal time. The email comes through, low and behold £150 fully comp up to £230!! A tad over 50% if I'm correct? So I get on the phone to enquire, Im given a reason ... blah blah "cost of living, blah, but we could get it down to £187" Go figure? I told him politely to keep it. So back to my comparison quotes went to my best option (Similar to BB) £152 went through to payment £172??? Gave them a call eventually to be told quotes change on a daily basis and this is the best we can do! "Thanks but goodbye" I tell him. Back to the Internet "direct blah" guess what even though the adverts on tv claim they are the best thing since sliced bread they weren't for me £342!!!!!! Called them to discuss, had I done something wrong? Nope they assessed me at that price and that was that. Wow, told her thanks for waiting my time but no thanks. Back to the net, long story short £150 (BB again) believe it or not but after having to keep removing non wanted automatically added options craftily snuck (watch them) Moral of the stick at it like a dog with a bone! Don't stick with your existing company as a rule, watch the sneaky added options and remember they don't give a stuff for you just your money! unapalomablanca
Its been like that since the beginning of car and any other insurance. Its called capitalism, they want the max, you want to pay the least, so you meet in the middle. No point in getting angry, just shop around. Of course they just want your money, but thats what lifes all about. Mine was cheaper than last year on the renewal letter.
Kes
I agree, some formal regulation called for in this market - the pursuit of profit produces these things.
Alanl50
I had been with Churchill for 3-4 years always good prices then sky high this year so I did the Meerkat search and back down to reality £210.09 with everything (comp) My wife has been with Saga for a number of year £153 it hovers around that figure but my daughter came in at over £500 did the Meerkat search and got it for £317, acceptable but the situation is ridiculous. I have been with Barclays bank for a long time and in a recent phone call they asked if they could quote me for house and contents, no probs I said, like for like I pay £280 - ish, they came back at over £700 and Im really not joking, the poor girl was so apologetic Shop around it does not pay to be loyal Alan

Little_Dom
i've noticed that it doesn't pay to accept their first offer either, last year my renewal letter came saying the cheapest they (admiral) could do was £900, after being told on the phone there was nowt they could do i got a quote off their website as a new customer for £635 (same car and everything) phoned back and pointed this out and they were more than hapy to take me on for the lower amount
Lampwick
It's a Micky take. I feel sorry for those (my mum being one) who believe they are valued customers of utility companies, insurance companies etc and get fleeced annually because they don't/can't shop around. Every year my home insurance goes up with the renewal every year I get it back down with a degree of hassle, haggling and or swopping company. Chukar
When I bought my latest car some while ago I was living in Reading. I got an insurance for 550. I moved to London after couple of month, Called them to update may address and they said my insurance increased by 280. I accepted that however I wasn't happy. Anyway when I checked my bank account later, I found they took 1280 from my account . I called them again and I realized I didn't heard the lady over phone clearly and they actually want to charge me 1280 for changing my address from Reading to London . Checked their website and I got 790 quote as a new customer At the end they agreed to that 790 . Moral of story: never accept their quot without shopping around before. Boromir
My renewal came in through Adrian Flux at 550 but on the renewal it said they will beat any quote so shopped around and hastings came out cheapest around £300. And Flux beat that quote and they added on roadside recovery.
