Mate of mine has just purchased a house with an acre of land and on it are two good sized ponds. He wants to get some runner ducks ( there is an island on one of the ponds ). problem is he has foxes living in his garden. He is happy to trap them but has no way of despatching them. are any ducks he buys going to end up dead courtesy of charlie or will they be wise enough to roost on the island ? i would solve the fox problem but he is 70 miles away

The fox will wait untill the weather gets harder and walk across the ice!

He would be better getting young ducks that could at least fly when older.Pen them in untill then.

The other alternative is feed the ponds regularly and the wild ones will come anyway as long as he doesnt shoot them.

Islands are a waste off time, often ducks aren't clever enough to roost on them but also the foxes will swim over no prob's. A few years ago someone was studying birds on an island in the middle of a big resivior (I think rutland water) and foxes will caught on the nite cams swimming over 100m stealing eggs and swimming back with them still whole.

Best way is get rid of the foxes
