iagree that benifits should be looked at,but we should also look at all the non job degrees being taught at uni.people get adegree in flower arranging and think they can get ajob earning 50k! this is due to all the hype we see ontv. etc and these people think they should have this wage.all due to media hype .that is why they go on benifits and turn down jobs that they say are below their "skill level".iserved my time as an apprentice in BMC (morris engines )and enjoyed it.most firms dont have apprentices as they see it as costly and don,t pay much more than dole,so why should some get up at 7amand go to workfor 5days for £1 per hour when their mates are playing on their x boxes and getting dole for dossing around

Dont think the "eastern europeans " are to blame for the minimum wage. Got two gangs of roofers subbing for me at the moment. One doesnt turn up if its likely to rain in the day, took the day off due to a beer up the night before etc. the other on the same pay are there bang on. Guess which is which and who gets the next £22ks worth of work?

if you live on minimum wage surely 20 superkings and four tinnies are a luxury?

Despite a lot of people assuming the Eastern Europeans are here just to claim benefits, I would say the majority are here to work.

Our minimum wage is miles better than the vast majority of the better paid jobs back home.

Of course the only way they can survive here is to steal all the scrap and live off poached swan and carp. (And people will think that is true)

I work with around 6 polish and Latvian, they work but they are always enquiring to my boss if they could work less hours so that they can get benefits to top up there part time hours. But I agree they are hard workers but so would our own lot of people if the benefits stopped and had to work to survive.

oh and I would rather my tax went to someone on benefit than to support a scumbag paying low wages

KW

They are exactly the same thing!

Anyway, if you work out the hourly rate a lot of small business owners are on a lot less than the minimum wage.

Stick it up to £10 an hour and watch the unemployment figures rocket!

Stop the taxman raping businesses and they will be able to employ more people on better wages and cut the welfare bill in half.

stopping benefits completely would result in a massive crime wave i think,

Would save the NHS a fortune in surgery to remove sofas from the backsides of the scroungers though.

Drug test those on benefits.

Pay benefits in food vouchers which can't be spent on alcohol or traded with others.

Those who can't keep a council property in a fit condition, get a downsizing and benefit reduction.

Keep minimum wage as it is, and those that prove they work a full time week get subsidised rent.

Call it as communistic as you like, it'd gee up some of the lazy ones...
