Few foxes with the terriers

.Had a walk out with the terriers after the bit of snow we have just had around one of my permissions ( a syndicate phesant shoot) . First sett we came to was a 3 holer and we entered one of the dogs in and she was soon baying away. Gave her 20 minuites or so to see if she could bolt it but it wouldnt shift so it was out with the finder and got a mark at 3 foot. Nice easy dig on flat ground and soon had a dog fox out and despatched.

Onto the next sett and it was a one holer which ran straight into a big enbankment which we have had foxes out of before, entered my other bitch, who was sounding instantly so set the net. 5 minuites or so passed without incident and then a flash of red as another young dog fox hit the net and was despatched. Bitch still baying so gave it another 10 then got the finder out and got a reading at 7ft. Good while later broke in and pulled out a vixen.

That was all unfortunately as we were loosing the light but 3 foxes accounted for so the shooting lads will be happy.

only managed to get one photo of the 2nd dog fox

Good work mate. Hoping to head out to do some holes with the terriers and my Father tomorrow. Can I ask why you netted the fox? Normally we bolt them and shoot them as they bolt with the shotgun.

Always have netted mate since pre ban , i dont shoot anyway but my digging partner does. We just net up and he despatches with a silenced .410, same when we break in

+ cuts down on the escapees

Fair enough. Though to be honest, with 2 people and shotguns, I can't mind the last fox that beat us when bolted. Hopefully I am in luck tomorrow and can post a few pics.

Great picture & write up - takes me back to my terrier work in the 70's when I was the North Wales Fell & Moorland Terrier Club Representative.

You can't beat the Lakeland & patterdales, I originally purchased my stock from John Cowan & Cyril Tyson in The Lake District - true terrier men.

Actually you can we are still working the same line of Russells that we were using in the 70s when we used to get terriers from Cowan and Tysons lines sent up to enter and give them a winters work. I was F&M rep for Mid Scottish region so I must have met you at the agm's or shows etc I'm now Sec of the SWTC. :innocent:
