Will Poon
Ok, so in another topic there's a few of us having a discussion about my legality of my pump action overall length as its fitted with a retractable stock, what's the legal overall length that is allowed in this country Thanks
Paddy Galore!
40", the barrel has to be 24" min. although shorter barrels are allowed on o/u, single barrel, & sxs on a sec 1 ticket. JONAH898
I was led to beleave it's 24" barrel with a over all length from tip of barrel to the end of stock (weather folded or open) of 40" minimum.
klatuveradanikto
Everyone seems to be missing out on this important exclusion, (excluding any detachable, folding, retractable or other moveable butt-stock) is less than 40 inches in length overall (section 5(1)(ac))
Andy H
As above 40" at it's shortest with stock folded for pump or semi auto.
klatuveradanikto
As above 40" at it's shortest with stock folded for pump or semi auto. See my above post, retractable or folding stocks are not taken into account for measuring overall length.See exclusion in the guidance. thepasty
Will, surely you have it adjusted to the length that fits you most of the time? Just glue it at that length and be done with it
Will Poon
Just to clarify , spoken to 2 police forces in the area and both said its measured from the muzzle to the back of the receiver because a foldable/retractable stock is disregarded because it moves so its well under 40" therefore making it a section 1 shotgun and even then the police allows theses types of stock for stuff like PSG shooting or similar :(
andy198712
******! So how long would your barrel need to be? ie how long is an 870 receiver? Edited February 7, 2013 by andy198712
andy198712
Just spoke to Devon and cornwalls firearm team and got pushed up the line to, I think the head honcho. I was asking about overal length. The law states, for sgc holders, minimum barrel length of 24 in and over all length of 40in as wel know. NOW THE GOOD BIT The sliding or detachable stock bit we were talking about before is no longer valid as that was removed when it was re vamped in 1997.... So you can have sliding or what ever stock you want so long as your overal length is no less then 40in. In its shortest setting so slid as short as it will go So when you read that bit about sliding stocks ect its due to that source not updating its source and causes a lot of misconception I was told..... xxx.Morph.xxx
I just replied on the other thread but the CPS website (which is often more up to date than web based firearms regulations) shows no mention of folding or adjustable stocks in the regulations. So as Andy said as long as your barrel is over 24 & overall length is over 40 http://www.cps.gov.u...g/firearms/#a14
Will Poon
It's abit of a grey area this as I've spoken to merseyside police and West Yorkshire police and both said no, West Yorkshire police said something along the lines if it did have an retractable/foldable stock it would be then classed as section 1 and even then the police would only issue the use of these stocks for things like PSG shooting or similar . Don't quote me on that Any way my adjustable ati stock is sort of sold on flea bay :(

andy198712
Again the firearms law is clear as mud!
